Depression is a disorder that is affecting so many individuals in our community. It is more than just sadness. It is classified as a disorder and is an actual medical condition. When someone is depressed it can feels as if you are not yourself. I have heard the saying throughout my career that this disorder feels like you are robbed of your identity and you just feel empty.
People do no understand you are not you have true self when you are depressed. Your depression can be more powerful and detrimental, and it can be bigger than your situation of trauma or any factors that may have contributed to your depression! It can feel like you have erased all of your normal personality and characteristics that are unique to you.
When depression kicks in, it can be so hard to force yourself into those positive emotions. It's like your brain locks out those emotions of happiness and joy. When speaking with a depressed person, it can be painful for them to be told to just try and be happy. It feels impossible for them. It has been proven that depression affects all of you. The way we feel emotionally and mentally has an impact on our physical well-being.

I know when it comes to mental health there are many stigmas associated with it, but know if you need help, help is out there.
If you feel like you identity with this disorder, please seek help! Know that you are worth getting help and pulling yourself out of this disorder and it's negative symptoms.

During the holiday season, it can be very stressful for many people. However, there are many ways you can protect your mental health during this time . When trying to prevent or lessen the stressful holiday season, knowing your triggers and having a game plan on how to avoid those stressful situations all together, can benefit you in the long run.

Regardless of the expectations you have for this holiday season, always take into consideration , how realistic is it that you will meet those expectations . There are times when we don’t meet certain expectations we set for ourselves;which can result in us feeling down this holiday season. Let’s do our best to avoid that type of situation. 😊Think about the expectations you are setting for yourself and make sure they are realistic to you. Try to set goals that you know you can realistically attain.
I know during the holiday time it’s so much fun to go Christmas shopping and to do the holiday treats;however, setting a budget can be tough for many individuals. We find it so easy to overspend during this holiday time that we forget that once this is all over, are we going to be in debt? During this holiday season, be sure to set a creative budget for yourself. For many of you this, but it may include gifts decorations what you’re gonna have for holiday, dinner and other holiday treats setting a budget can help you avoid the stress of overspending and the results that can come from it later.

Sometimes, during the holiday season, there are times where we might find ourselves getting caught up in negative emotions. Being able to write in your gratitude journal will help you to recognize all of the good elements about your life and the things you’re thankful for; while also reminding you of the things that we should not take for granted.

When it comes to checking in with yourself, this involves asking yourself questions like :

-How are you feeling today?
-Am I taking out enough time for myself to recharge?
-Are there any things that are coming up,that may be stressful and can I do something to relieve that stress beforehand?

Once you have completed that self check in , if you realize that you need to take a moment to yourself , do so. Schedule some me time, time to regroup and recharge. One last important thing to take away from today’s message , is set some healthy boundaries this holiday season. Know that it’s OK to say NO. You might not be able to make it to every holiday party or do every gift exchange. It’s important to understand that early on and be OK with it . It does not make you a bad person to set healthy boundaries. If you know, there are certain events, you would like to make it to, plan ahead/set extra time for yourself to attend those events . Do not spread yourself too thin to where you’re feeling overwhelmed.

I have seen first hand both from professional experience and personal using alternate language can produce better outcomes in children with ASD and those without the diagnosis. Positive language reinforces positive thinking. Changing up one’s language in a more positive manner can provide more positive outcomes. It can help welcome emotions, encourage engagement, offer support, provide motivation,provide solutions, help understand one’s limits, and most definitely takes the harshness/negative emotions/behaviors out of the presenting situation .

I had to recreate another page for Connecting the Puzzle Pieces LLC. The old page some how disappeared! 🤷‍♀️ However it is back up and going again. I will be adding more control the new page soon! Also life happens and there are bumps in the road at times;however we just keep going! New information on the launch date will be post on the page and the Instagram account!
