Srinagar, Nov11: (GNS) A Gunfight has started between militants and government forces in Bemina of Central Kashmir's Srinagar district on Thrusday evening.
Reports reaching GNS that a joint team of Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Bemina.
As the joint team of forces encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an gunfight.
A senior police officer also confirmed to GNS about exchange of firing between militants and security forces.(GNS)

*J&K’s higher reaches receive fresh snow, heavy rain in plains*
Srinagar, Oct 23: The higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Saturday, while heavy rain lashed the plains in the union territory.
A Met Department official said moderate to heavy rain continued in the plains while Sonamarg, Pahalgam, Gulmarg and other places in the higher reaches received fresh snowfall.
"Moderate to heavy rain lashed the plains. Same weather conditions are likely to continue during the next 24 hours", the official added.
South Kashmir's Shopian town recorded 4 to 5 inches of snow in the morning.
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic as landslides and shooting stones hit the highway in the Ramban area.
The minimum temperatures have also dropped throughout the valley.
Srinagar recorded 7.3 degrees Celsius as its minimum temperature, while Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded 0.1 degree Celsius and minus 1.3 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Jammu city recorded 15.4 degrees Celsius as the night's lowest temperature.
In the Ladakh region, Kargil recorded the season's first snowfall on Saturday, while 5 inches of fresh snow was recorded in Drass town.—(IANS)

Eid-Ul-Adha: Indo-Pak armies exchange sweets along LoC in twin North Kashmir districts
Kupwara, Jul21: Aimed to revive the old tradition, the Armies of India and Pakistan on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha exchanged sweets at the historic Teethwal crossing bridge and Kaman Aman Setu in Uri in the twin North Kashmir districts of Kupwara and Baramulla respectively.
An official told the news agency--Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Adha the Indo-Pak armies exchanged the sweets in a meeting held at Teethwal and Uri in twin sectors in the presence of police and other officials this afternoon.
They said that all the necessary Covid-19 protocols were followed during the exchange of sweets by the two sides.
Meanwhile, an Amry spokesperson, in a statement said that on the occasion of Eid-ul- Zuha and as a gesture for promoting peace, harmony and compassion in the true spirit of the festival, India and Pakistan Armies held a flag meeting and exchanged sweets at Kaman Aman Setu, Uri and Teethwal Crossing.
He said that the event was held by strictly following the ceasefire agreement on the Line of Control.
Notably, after the recent ceasefire agreement between the two countries in February, the situation close to the fence has improved with border tourism getting the required momentum and native people living without fear like never before.
It may be recalled that the two armies on eve of the Eid-Ul-Fitr had also exchanged sweets at Teethwal bridge in Kupwara.
