Soccer camp came and went! Even though it was a million degrees outside, these kiddos had a blast. They even ended with an epic and much deserved water ballon fight! Next up, soccer in the fall. Say a little prayer for us lol.

Born Brave ♥️

Our fighter, our little heart warrior. It’s hard to believe that two years ago we handed you over to an amazing team of doctors and nurses to repair that big heart of yours. It was the longest day of our lives and held our breath until we heard the words “surgery went amazing, you’ll see her in a bit”. And when we did, it felt like we could breathe for a bit again and all was right in the world.

Having a child with keeps us on our toes especially with each appointment that comes our way but the fear is bit less and less. We pray that her heart continues to function the way it should and no hiccups arise. She passed her appointment earlier this year with flying colors.

Today we celebrate Luciana being here with us, sharing that big ol’ heart of hers (according to the bigs she gives the best hugs in the world, and I can attest).

Happy Two Year Heartiversary, Luciana. We love you.

Can’t believe my sweet baby boy is one year older. Both a kindergarten graduate, turning 6, headed to first grade. So many big things coming your way and to have grown so much. Never stop being my loving caring yet oh so driven boy. Thanks for always keeping us on our toes and making us laugh when we least expect it. We love you bubba baby.

This kiddos has been doing so amazing at soccer! He even scored a goal at his last game. I think he might be a natural like his mama.

Only one more softball game to go and 3 soccer games for the season. Secretly, mama may be ready for a break.

I never knew how much our trip to Holland would mean until Luciana was born. She brought light into our life, in a time of darkness. If you wonder what it’s like to raise a child with a disability, this may help you understand:

“When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books & make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting.

After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags & off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in & says, "Welcome to Holland."

"Holland?!?" you say. "What do you mean Holland?? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy."

But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay.

The important thing is that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine & disease. It's just a different place.

So you must go out & buy new guide books. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met.

It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while & you catch your breath, you look around and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills & Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandts.

But everyone you know is busy coming & going from Italy & they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned."

And the pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away because the loss of that dream is a very very significant loss.

But if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things about Holland.”

Still can’t believe that we saw in person. The performance she gave was incredible. Even if you don’t really like her/ her music (but how could you not), one can appreciate the show she put on. 44 songs, no breaks, other than costume changes, in 3 hours is incredible. Wish we could relive this day all over again.

There is no greater advocacy than the one from a mother who doesn’t let “no” stand in her way. For about the past year, blood, sweat and tears were poured into Bubbles, Boots & Bingo and we couldn’t have done it without our fearless leaders @fancylikeannie & @annehill522. Together they banded us moms and lit a fire to create an event, not only to raise funds, awareness & inclusion, but to open up Fort Worth’s eyes to what a wonderful gift Down Syndrome is. To show them how worthy individuals with Down Syndrome are, and what a privilege it is to be loved by them. Down Syndrome is quite the opposite of scary, and while the road may be bumpy a long the way, there’s nothing stopping these kiddos from achieving their best. Especially when moms like us don’t take “no” for an answer. Yesterday was a true testament of that. Thanks to the amazing ladies that came in their best dressed western glam, we were able to surpass our original goal and raise $101,000! This will open up so many doors at @dspnt as well as the Down Syndrome community and I can’t wait see the impact this makes. THANK YOU @dspnt for being there when our community has needed you the most and for supporting our co-chairs with their wild/crazy ideas that blew our event out of the water. September is #nicuawarenessmonth and I couldn’t let pass by without reminiscing about our journey. Luciana was only in the NICU for 6 days but those 6 days felt like the longest days of our lives. It was a rollercoaster of emotions. What was supposed to be the happiest time of our lives, turned into the scariest. The day we had to a leave Luci at the hospital was gut wrenching. Looking back, I see at how strong we were, navigating uncharted waters. And how blessed we were to bring her home because sometimes that’s not the case. These NICU babies are warriors fighting for their life each day they are there.
