The exact moment Steve McClaren believed Erik ten Hag would be sacked at Manchester United

Question marks surround Erik ten Hag’s Old Trafford future.

Questions continue to be asked about Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United and Steve McClaren has revealed the precise moment he felt the Dutchman might have lost his job at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag has been United boss since the summer of 2022, joining from Dutch outfit Ajax and enjoyed a solid first season at Old Trafford, securing third place in the Premier League and winning the League Cup.

Though United beat Manchester City to win the FA Cup last season and record silverware, Ten Hag oversaw a dismal campaign in the Premier League with an eighth place finish and exiting the Champions League at the group stage.

This season, United’s inconsistent form has continued and the Old Trafford side currently sits 14th in the top flight table.

In midweek, United recorded their second successive draw in the Europa League with a 3-3 on the road against FC Porto.

Indeed, United raced into a two goal lead thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund, only for the hosts to come from behind and lead 3-2.

Bruno Fernandes was shown a red card for a high boot and Harry Maguire came off the bench to rescue a point at the death for the 10 men.

United travel to Villa Park this afternoon to take on Aston Villa before the next international break.

Should United lose later on today, questions will no doubt continue surrounding Ten Hag’s future and how much longer he might remain at Old Trafford.

McClaren spent the past two seasons at United in his second stint at the club, having been part of Ten Hag’s backroom staff, before becoming the Jamaica head coach this summer.

And McClaren revealed the dismal 4-0 loss on the road to Crystal Palace last season was the moment when he felt Ten Hag might lose his job at United as he reflected on the job the Dutchman has done at Old Trafford, starting in his first season which began with successive Premier League losses to Brighton and Brentford.

Speaking to Sky Sports, McClaren said, “Every day at Manchester United you’re under pressure. I lived with him for two years. On many, many occasions. After Brighton and Brentford [fans were] calling for his head after two games, and then [we] beat Liverpool 3-0.

“I remember last season, Crystal Palace 4-0, it could have been 8-0 and thinking that this is the end but [then] winning the next four games culminating in a cup final again and winning the cup.”

He added: “Erik is that kind of person who has the qualities to stick to the process. I was there at the beginning of the season when all this was going on – the recruitment, the thing with INEOS bringing in different coaches and I remember leaving there and the atmosphere was great.

“The atmosphere was great and the players they were recruiting were very good and the squad was building and developing.”

Here is the historical reason Caitlin Clark should win ROTY. In 1980, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson were by far, the 2 best rookies in the NBA. Larry Bird won the award and here is why.
"Bird was drafted by the Celtics after his junior year at Indiana State (1978) but did not play professionally until the 1979–80 season when he won the Rookie of the Year award after contributing to one of the largest single-season turnarounds in NBA history (a 32-win improvement) and leading the Celtics to the playoffs."
Note the Lakers were a perennial playoff team.
Caitlin Clark has done the same thing for the Fever after 7 losing seasons. The Award is not just for personal accolades but also TEAM.

The Caitlin Clark Mania Is NOW WORLDWIDE...

Caitlin Clark has emerged as the biggest female sports star globally, surpassing other prominent athletes, including established names in tennis and gymnastics. In her first WNBA season, she has already become the face of women’s basketball, winning the Rookie of the Year award in a unanimous decision that received 66 out of 67 votes. The lone dissenting vote? Likely a "troll vote" that many have dismissed entirely.

Clark's impact on the sport is monumental. She has shattered rookie records, not only dominating in scoring but also excelling in assists and overall gameplay. Her style on and off the court has garnered immense attention and admiration, making her a complete package. Her witty press conferences and ability to address important issues have endeared her to fans worldwide, including in places like India, where her fame is rapidly spreading.

The enthusiasm for Clark is palpable, as evidenced by international coverage, even in countries where basketball isn't traditionally popular. The rise of women's basketball is closely tied to Clark’s performance and personality, illustrating how a single athlete can elevate an entire sport. Her ability to engage with fans and address social issues has made her a role model, transcending the game itself.

Despite facing challenges and controversies, including discussions about racism within the league, Clark has remained a beacon of positivity. Her commitment to advocating for her peers and the sport reflects a maturity beyond her years. The narrative surrounding her is not just about athletic prowess but also about her influence and the joy she brings to the game.

In a world where sports can often be divisive, Caitlin Clark's story is unifying. As she continues to break records and win accolades, the "Clark Mania" phenomenon is not just a trend; it represents a significant shift in the landscape of women's sports. With her unprecedented success and popularity, Caitlin Clark is undoubtedly putting the WNBA on the map and inspiring a new generation of basketball fans around the globe.

Nike Have FORGOT That Caitlin Clark Exists 🤯

Indiana Fever rookie phenom Caitlin Clark is arguably the biggest star in professional sports right now.

She’s broken records for WNBA attendance, television ratings and merchandise sales, and one would think her biggest sponsor would want to capitalize on her rising star power.

But Nike, which signed Clark to an eight-year, $28 million endorsement deal, has done next to nothing to promote the WNBA Rookie of the Year since adding her to its impressive all-star roster.

Nike hasn’t produced one ad or commercial featuring Clark since she turned pro.

And despite a signature shoe deal being part of Nike’s agreement with Clark, it may not be released until 2026 according to sports business reporter Ethan Strauss, because Nike wants to prioritize A’ja Wilson and it fears the optics of giving a rookie a signature shoe before an already established star who just won league MVP.

After Strauss’ story broke, Nike was roasted on social media by several unruly fans unhappy with Clark being slighted because of another WNBA player, and the company was called out over it’s questionable decision not to market one of its top stars.

“So let me get this straight: 1. Nike signed Caitlin Clark to a big deal, but haven’t posted a congratulations post for winning ROTY. 2. WNBA haven’t posted the ROTY winner either. But, the ADIDAS ambassador did a whole post congratulating CC on her accomplishments. Smh,” one fan wrote.

“It seems odd that I haven’t seen any commercials with Caitlin Clark since turning professional & becoming Rookie of the Year. Seems like a MASSIVE MISS. And after paying her tens of millions of dollars she still doesn’t have a shoe anywhere in sight,” another commented.

“They know the league hates Caitlin Clark. does not want to cause controversy. The WNBA is a hostile work environment for a straight White Catholic woman trying to play at the professional level,” a third remarked.

“Adidas celebrating Caitlin Clark's phenomenal rookie year while her endorser Nike stays mum to prevent hurt feelings (*cough*A'ja*cough*) is savvy business,” one user stated.

“ Where are the Caitlin Clark sneakers, or the commercials or you even congratulating her on Rookie of the year. I’m sure she would be happy to sign with someone else,” another user asked.

With Nike looking to do some image repair after firing CEO John Donahoe on Sept. 19 and replacing him with Elliott Hill following the company stock price’s 20% drop earlier this year, perhaps the backlash it’s facing over the Clark situation is enough to get the wheels in motion on Clark being a more forward-facing part of the Nike brand.

One massive statistic shows just how big of an impact former Iowa star Caitlin Clark has had on the Indiana Fever.
The Indiana Fever have re-taken the national stage thanks to star rookie and former Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark.
Clark, who has become one of the most talked about athletes in the nation, has not disappointed in her debut season with the Fever. Not only has she played well personally, she has helped lead the team to the WNBA Playoffs.
Clark Report on X has revealed a wild statistic about Indiana that shows just how big of an impact Clark has made on the team in her rookie season.
Before Clark in their previous 83 games, the Fever had won just 18 total games. Since drafting clark in just 36 games, they have won 19 games.
While not all of that success can be contributed specifically to Clark, she has improved the team dramatically. Her playmaking skills have been just as important as her scoring ability.
During her rookie season in 36 games played, Clark has averaged 19.2 points per game to go along with 8.5 assists, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals. She has shot 42.3 percent from the floor overall and has knocked down 34.7 percent of her three-point attempts.
At just 22 years old, she has also handled the media quite well. There have been a ton of critics and haters. A lot of jealousy has been seen among many women in the WNBA.
Despite all of the negativity that has tried to attack her, Clark has stayed away from it. She has simply focused on playing basketball.
Looking ahead at the rest of the season, it seems very likely that the former Iowa superstar will win the Rookie of the Year award. She's also set to lead Indiana into the playoffs. There is a lot more to come this season for Clark.

New Indiana Fever President Has Clear Opinion of Caitlin Clark
Kelly Krauskopf will become the new Indiana Fever President of Basketball and Business Operations.
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark changed the WNBA in her rookie season. While the league had gathered some positive momentum in recent years, Clark has taken the league to new heights.
Already popular from her historic collegiate career at Iowa, Clark grew in popularity throughout her historic rookie campaign. Breaking numerous league records, Clark averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists and 5.7 rebounds en route to a fourth place MVP finish.
The entire WNBA has benefitted from Clark's popularity, but the impact on Indiana has been especially significant. Making a big announcement on Monday, Indiana revealed that former general manager Kelly Krauskopf will be returning to the organization as the Fever's President of Basketball and Business Operations.
Kelly Krauskopf will return to the team as President of Basketball and Business Operations at the conclusion of the 2024 season.
welcome back, Kelly!Krauskopf had been serving as the Indiana Pacers' assistant general manager, and while her desire to rejoin the Fever may not be directly tied to what Clark has helped create, the executive is a known fan of the star rookie.
In a post on X, reshared two posts from Krauskopf that showed her support for Clark.
These two posts are not the only time Krauskopf has gone public with her opinion of Clark.
After the Iowa vs. South Carolina 2024 Women's Championship game drew more viewers than the Men's Championship game, Krauskopf co-signed a post crediting Clark for that development.
Krauskopf also had a welcoming post for Clark after the NCAA's all-time leading scorer was selected first overall by Indiana in the 2024 WNBA draft.
"Welcome to Indy the epicenter of basketball," Krauskopf wrote on X. "You will love this franchise, city and fan base. Your best days are ahead of you! Go !"
Krauskopf returns to a Fever organization that is in a much better place on and off the court since drafting Clark. As her social media posts show, Krauskopf is a big fan of Indiana's star guard.
Per the team's report, Krauskopf will begin her new role at the conclusion of the 2024 season.

Caitlin Clark has just been named WNBA Rookie of the Year following an impressive performance. The debate over the award has often centered on whether to prioritize rebounds and double-doubles or points and assists, as both Clark and Angel Reese excel in different areas.

However, it's important to address a troubling trend: some opinions on the Rookie of the Year race appear influenced by race rather than performance. Many seem to publicly support one player to align with their social circles, despite privately feeling differently.

Caitlin Clark ranks in the top 10 for points per game, leads the league in assists, and has set multiple WNBA records, including those for assists in a game and being the first rookie to achieve a triple-double. In contrast, Angel Reese leads in rebounds and has set records for consecutive double-doubles.

Yet, historically, scoring and assists have been valued more than rebounds in determining awards. Caitlin Clark's achievements clearly warrant her recognition as Rookie of the Year. As the Indiana Fever head into the playoffs, it's time to acknowledge her contributions honestly and fairly.

Actions would never be recognizable or identifiable without an opposite and equal reaction. You can’t be a fast runner if there is no such thing as a slow runner. You can’t be a good swimmer if there is no such thing as a bad swimmer. And without failure, there is no such thing as success! Be patient Fever fans, our time is coming! We are in the process of building back. Things will be built around number 22 and Lin Dunn and Christie Sides will lead this team to prosperity! It may not be this year and it might not be next.. but it’s coming! The Fever dynasty is coming! And you will remember these trials, you will remember these moments and will ultimately remember as you celebrate a multitude of WNBA Championships.. trust me, it’s coming!

"Dear Caitlin Clark,

I never thought I'd be sitting here, writing a letter like this—certainly not after the path my life took. But here I am, a former NCAA men's basketball player who once averaged 27 points a game, nearly lost it all to alcohol and Adderall, and somehow found redemption in the most unexpected place: watching you play.
Let me take you back for a minute. For three years, I was on top of the world, lighting up the scoreboard, feeling invincible. Basketball was everything to me. Then, I hit a point where the late nights, the pressure, and the need to be perfect led me to dark places. I started using alcohol to numb the noise and Adderall to keep up. I kept playing well enough, but I wasn't me anymore. Eventually, everything crashed. My stats dropped. My energy was gone. My life spiraled, and I almost didn't make it out.
There were days I didn't know if I'd ever touch a basketball again. Nights I didn't know if I'd even want to see the morning light. And then, during one of my lowest points, I saw a highlight reel of you playing at Iowa. I don't know what it was, but something clicked. You were fearless. The way you played with joy, confidence, and fire—I hadn't felt that kind of passion in years. It reminded me why I fell in love with the game in the first place. It wasn't about the points or the fame. It was about heart.
I started tuning in to your games, and for the first time in a long time, I felt hope. I thought, “If Caitlin can play with that much passion, even under pressure, why can't I fight for my own life the same way?" Slowly, I started rebuilding. One step at a time, one day at a time. Rehab. Therapy. Basketball again—but this time, just for me. The court became my sanctuary, not my stage.
Here's the kicker—I didn't just come back to life; I came back stronger. I graduated from Stanford with honors, something I never thought possible during the darkest days. And though I'm no longer that 27-point machine, I'm something even better: I'm alive, I'm sober, and I'm filled with purpose.
Watching you made me believe in myself again. You showed me that it’s not about never falling; it's about always getting back up. Caitlin, you'll never know what your game meant to someone like me—a man who had almost lost his will to fight but found it again in the beauty of watching you play the game we both love.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. You changed my life in ways you'll never understand.
Sincerely,
I'll leave this anonymous
