The Song Room is a national for-purpose organisation that brightens the futures of Australia’s most disadvantaged children with tailored, high-quality music and arts programs, delivered in partnership with schools across the country.

Sound acts here to expand on the physical spaces within the photographs whilst tracing emotional narratives of split cultural identity which exist within Silvi’s work, and through her life. The sound is experiential, conceived to aid in your own viewing of the images.

In the act of capturing the photograph, the photographer captures a series of moments with the lens and then prints these “passings of time” into the non-temporal printed form. In much the same way short phrases of sound within the score are digitally time stretched; augmented to infinitum. These techniques are utilised to push moments of audio into the never-ending, the frozen.

These stretched smears of audio lay underscore to a series of field recordings and foley sound. Recordings where captured from places significant to the work such as, Silvi’s home, the site of photographs and the buried freight-train line which runs through it. Foley sounds are layered in with the sound-world to hint at filmic scenes within the work. The foley and field recordings however, only fill in a small amount of the blank narrative space; inviting the viewer into the work, allowing them to draw thematic links as they see fit.

Finally in realising emotional narratives of diaspora, the violin weaves colour through layers of landscape both whistling like the wind and oscillating like human emotions.

Let the sonic landscapes wash over you. let yourself be consumed by the images, trancing their contours as you discover them through the exhibition.

((Artist Bio)) Delighted to kick off a new year with a new (half-returning) member of the Obol family. Welcome, Jasa.

Jaime Sacchero, aka Jasa, is a Melbourne-based producer and composer. His compositional approach ranges from generative computer tech to lucid sound-baths. With a deep love for the dance floor and formless ambient sounds, Jasa focuses on experiential music.

“I implore you to let my music wash over you; don't try to hold on to its every moment. I hope that my listeners will bring themselves to the experience. This way each has their own experience rather than letting the music prescribe one. The result is more personal to each listener, each ear, each mind.”

‘Paracosm’ explores grief following the death of a loved one, memories fade and morph as the sound does until eventually you sit in a world constructed entirely from recollection. This piece started its life as a collaboration with dancer and choreographer Hadassah Rose for Knox Immerse Festival, and has developed into a standalone sound work.

((Upcoming Release)) 'Rain in the Rhythm,' the debut single from Naarm-based producer and sound artist Sunbu, is out in 2 weeks (20th Nov).

The track holds listeners suspended in space as they are carried on a journey through planes of rhythm and texture. Evolved from an original work written for Hiball‘s 'Salient Moments in the Habitual Pattern,' constructed virtual spaces are found warped and recontextualised within the single, pulling listeners deep into it’s eerie yet strangely familiar world.

Pre-orders for digital and a limited vinyl run will be available tomorrow.

((Artist Bio)) With a background creating immersive sound experiences, the newest addition to the Obol family is Sunbu; a project by sound artist Mitchell Mackintosh, based in Naarm (Melbourne).

Ecstatic rhythms and billowing streams of uncanny harmonic texture wind their way through their work, carrying listeners through a landscape built from sound and space.

((Upcoming Release)) Once again, get ready to fall backwards through tape fog and voice memo graininess; ‘Luvtide, Vol. 2’ will be released 30th Oct.

Continuing the ongoing collation of Noah Riseley’s exploratory ambient works, ‘Vol. 2’ picks up where its predecessor left off: acting as a musical sketchbook/journal of discrete moments and places in time, and finding equal joy in degradation and repetition. Cassette tapes, toy pianos, and discarded roadside synths push this collection beyond the guitar-driven haze of the previous volume, and into passages of keyboard-heavy yearning.
