In compliance with the directives of the honorable minister of state for petroleum PMS pricing, pump price has been reduced to N125 per liter
The places a huge economic strain on Nigerians, which is why we counselled the FG to reduce the pump price of PMS. I commend the FG for taking this step and I urge that all hands be on deck to rescue Nigeria from the economic downturn of the oil crash.

Coronavirus: New research places Nigeria among high risk African countries

Egypt, Algeria, and South Africa are at high risk of suffering from the deadly coronavirus, a study released Wednesday suggested.
The study suggested other countries – among them Nigeria, Ethiopia, Sudan, Angola, Tanzania, Ghana and Kenya – would all need support with detecting and handling imported cases of the coronavirus.
The Lancet medical journal reported that the three African countries were at particular risk because of higher levels of travel and trade with China, where the COVID-19 virus first arose.
Egypt’s health ministry announced last week the first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus in Africa – a foreigner whose nationality was not revealed.
“African countries have recently strengthened their preparedness to manage importations of COVID-19 cases,” said study author Dr Vittoria Colizza, of France’s Sorbonne university.
These include temperature screening at ports of entry, recommendations to avoid travel to China and improved health information provided to health professionals and the general public.
However, she said “some countries remain ill-equipped” to deal with the threat and more needed to be done with surveillance and rapid identification of suspected cases, patient isolation and contact tracing.

While almost three-quarters of African countries have an influenza pandemic preparedness plan, most are outdated and considered inadequate
Fortunately, Egypt, Algeria and South Africa have “the most prepared health systems in the continent”, the report found.
The new findings are from a modelling study estimating the preparedness and vulnerability of African countries, as well as their likelihood of importing COVID-19 cases from China.
Algeria, Ethiopia, South Africa and Nigeria were included in the 13 top priority countries identified by the World Health Organization (WHO), based on their direct links and volume of travel to China.
China is Africa’s leading commercial partner with high volumes of travel between the two locations.
However, some African countries simply do not have the resources, including beds and quarantine premises, the study warned.

Anthony Joshua receives hero’s welcome in Sagamu

Unified heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, was given a hero’s welcome in his home town Sagamu on Wednesday after paying homage to the town’s traditional rulers.
Joshua is making his first appearance in the country since reclaiming his WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO titles from Mexico’s Andy Ruiz at the Diriyah Arena in Saudi Arabia with a convincing 12th round win.
Hundreds of fans surrounded the boxer during his visit to the Alafin Elepe palace and the seat of the Alafin Akarigbo of Remo Land.
Newsmen, who witnessed the courtesy visit of the pugilist in Sagamu, noted that after his meeting with the traditional rulers, the boxer took pictures with the supporters, who came out in their numbers to catch a glimpse of the world champion.

Speaking to newsmen, Joshua’s kinsmen said it’s always a delight for them to see the boxer visit his hometown.

The residents of Lafiaji-Lekki area of Lagos state have demanded to know the relationship between Dunmak Power Engineering Company and Eko Electric Distribution Company (EKEDC) after the former claimed it now represents the EKEDC.
In a letter of petition to the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) by their solicitor, Yomi Oyebo Esq. the residents said Dunmak Power Engineering
Company, claiming to be acting on behalf of (EKEDC) has sent outrageous electricity bill to the area.
The residents in the petition urged the NERC to intervene and investigate the company.

According to the petition, “Sometime in September 2019, the residents of Lafiaji-Lekki area of Lagos State were approached by the Managing Director of a company named “Dunmak Power Engineering Company” with the claim that his company now represents Eko Electric Distribution Company (EKEDC) and that Dunmak could supply the neighbourhood with a minimum 21 hours of electricity, daily.
“The company then presented a letter of Introduction from the managing Director of EKEDC (Mr. Adeoye Fadebiyi)dated 9th October 2019 to add some legitimacy to their claims.

“Confused, the residents of the area which consists of a cluster of mostly hotels and residential Estates asked several questions bothering on Dunmak’s capacity to deliver as boasted and the nature/origin of its relationship with EKEDC but no satisfactory answer were ever provided.
“The Company claimed it was an investor in the power infrastructure in the neighbourhood and that it had spent over 500 million Naira in the area and that this arrangement was a part of the Federal Governments WILLING BUYER, WILLING SELLER Power scheme. All efforts to get the Company to prove this claim also yielded no results.”
The residents in their petition said in a letter dated 28th October and received on 30th October 2019, Dunmak Power Limited wrote to all properties in the area stating that it had introduced a new electricity billing of N50 per kilowatt/Hour as against the NERC/FG approved 29.5 naira per Kilowatt/Hour.
