After teaching music full time for over a decade, Michael Daughtry left his comfort zone to pursue his passion for musical connection as a recording artist. Michael was born in a tiny North Carolina town to an elementary school teacher and an agricultural entrepreneur. Discovering his grandmother’s piano at age 3, his musical devotion grew throughout his childhood, even though he admits he has yet to get that drum set he once requested on his Christmas list. Happily married and sharing his love of music with his school-age daughter, he remains dedicated to his local community.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month – a month to raise awareness of those living with mental or behavioral health issues and to help reduce the stigma so many experience, although many working in the field of mental health may argue that 31 days is not nearly enough time to dedicate to the nation’s most prominent illnesses.

In a new book, Aiden’s Spots, the story follows Aiden on his 1st day of school as he begins Kindergarten. Aiden has Vitiligo and is unsure what to expect or even how to explain it if called upon. Luckily his teacher Mrs. Dean is well versed in Vitiligo and can educate his class on the 1% of the world with Vitiligo.

Vitiligo is an auto-immune disease that attacks the melanocytes in the skin – leaving white spots on the body.

In the book, Aiden and his class learn about their differences and how they are the same. Aiden's Spots is wonderful for teaching children with and without Vitiligo all about this ever prevalent Auto Immune disorder.
