RELENTLESS DISPLAY FROM NICOLE ROGERS
It's Ladies day at Potters Resorts, Hopton-On-Sea today, showcasing four quarter final matches in the Imagine Cruising World Indoor Bowls Ladies Matchplay Singles and Exeter's Nicole Rogers certainly set the bar extremely high in her opening game against Arbroath qualifier Ailsa Robertson - who was making her debut at Potters.
Rogers, a 25 year old Actuarial Consultant who bowls out of the Exonia Club, and who lost in at this stage last year to South Africa's Gillian Young in straight sets, didn't make that mistake this time round, never faltering throughout, with a dominating 10-2, 11-0 victory.
She only dropped singles on the first and fifth ends of the opening set and never put a foot wrong in the second set - with delicate draws to full out strikes, denying the 35 year old Elgin administrator on several occasions to rubber stamp her place in Wednesday's semi-final against the winner of today's match between defending champion Katherine Rednall or Lincolnshire's Annalisa Dunham.
RESULT LSQF2 Nicole Rogers (Eng) bt Ailsa Robertson (Scot) 10-2, 11-0.

FORMER WORLD SINGLES CHAMPION TAKES HIS FIRST STEP TOWARDS RETAINING THE TITLE
2020 World Open Singles champion Rob Paxton negotiated a second round berth in this year's IMAGINE CRUISING sponsored event, overcoming Suffolk's Phillip Last 11-2, 9-7.
Paxton, from the Exonia club in Crediton and seeded 4 on the WBT Ranking List only dropped two singles over the course of the first set and won 11-2.
The second set was a lot more competitive. Tied at 3-3 after four ends, Last, a Street Works Manager whose home indoor club is Ipswich and who first appeared in a WBT World Championship in 2008, added a single on the fifth to take the lead for the first time in the match at 4-3.
However Paxton scored a treble followed by a double, but it was 'game on' with Last picking up three shots on the penultimate end to cut the score to 8-7 in Paxton's favour and leave himself requiring a double to take the match to a shoot-out decider.
But that vital two shot count for Last never materialised on the final end with Paxton holding off the strong challenge to count that set winning single and avert any potential danger of a tie break scenario.

WELSH DUO LEAVE IT TO THE VERY LAST BOWL TO BOOK A BERTH IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE PAIRS

Welsh qualifiers Sara Nicholls and Ross Owen won their opening match of the 2024 Imagine Cruising World Pairs Championship at Potters Resorts Hopton On Sea earlier today against South Africa's Kevin Douglas and Peter Harvey.
In the opening set the Welsh duo led 5-2 after seven ends in the best of two sets of nine ends (2 x bowl pairs) match. However the Springbok twosome rolled in a single and double to square the set at 5-5.
They continued their form in the second set, picking up a full count of four on the opening end, and that was a major contributing factor in the scoring, giving them a 6-3 advantage after six ends.
Wales continually looked to be clawing their way back into contention but the South African skip - Peter Harvey, denied them time and time again to hold the advantage.
However with three ends remaining, a double to Wales gave them a lifeline to cut the deficit to 5-6.
But once again it was Harvey who blocked any count for the Welsh pairing- with the South Africans scoring a vital single on the penultimate end to lead 7-5.
Nicholls gave the Welsh pair a great opportunity on the last end, leaving skip Owen holding a double and the possibility of a tie break decider.
As the skips took possession of the rink, Harvey was slightly heavy with his last bowl and that opened the door of opportunity for Owen to add a third shot and pocket the result with the very last bowl of the match 8-7 to move through to a first round match against England's Mark Dawes and Jamie Chestney at 9.30am tomorrow morning (Saturday 6th January)

We hope you'll all be suitably 'sitting comfortably' for the next 16 days, with full action coming your way for the much awaited 2024 Cruising World Indoor Bowls Championships at its world renowned home of Potters Resort, Hopton on Sea, on the Norfolk Coast - the celebrated host venue for the event and the world's top bowlers for the past 26 years.
Tune in at 9.30am GMT on Friday 5th January for the opening day of play promoting the first of 5 Preliminary Round exchanges with the mainstream Pairs head to head kicking off the proceedings with qualifiers Peter Harvey and Kevin Douglas from South Africa taking of Welsh qualifiers Sara Nicholls and Ross Owen.
Format is two sets of 9 ends (2 bowls each player) with a three end tie-break - if necessary - to declare the winner.
Recapping from last year title deciders Potters Ambassador Greg Harlow and his equally famous partner Nicky Brett, secured the Pairs title against Guernsey's Jason Greenslade and Scotland's Michael Stepney 10-4, 9-5.
It was an enthralling battle to the bitter end of the Singles, history was made when qualifier Jamie Walker walked away with the singles title against Scottish qualifier Jason Banks with a nail biting, thrilling 8-7, 7-7 victory.
Born in 1996, England Katherine Rednall once again dominated in the ladies singles, hitting back against former holder Welsh born and former Aussie rep Ceri Ann Davis to take out her 5th women's WBT Indoor singles title 7-12, 12-5, 2-1.
Ceri made up for this disappointment though, teaming up with Scottish compatriot Stewart Anderson to walk away with the Mixed Pairs title at the expense of countryman Paul Foster MBE and Guernsey's Alison Merrien 8-8, 11-2 and for the second year in succession Cumbria's Daniel Pool scored the ultimate gold medal in the Under 25 Open Singles title, enjoying an 8-6, 7-2 victory against Scot Darren Weir.
All that can be said is 'stay tuned' to expect a plethora of exciting matches and potential upsets during the Tournament from the top bowlers who will be competing in the various categories and show casing their skills and strategy at this outstanding venue and courtesy of our renowned sponsor - Cruising.
