Hey Sassy Mums,

Meet my new co-host, Redd-Lily 🥳

Some of you may remember her from episode 5 when we talked about dating as a single-mum, but for those of you who don’t, here’s a bit about her:

👩‍👧She’s a boy mum to 3-year-old Tighe

🎭 A badass businesswoman, working on multiple projects from acting, arts & crafts, logistics and now, podcasting

📝 She prides herself on not overthinking all the technicalities of being single-mother as ‘you may never make it out the door’ - her son Tighe has travelled with her on tour, group holidays and even work meetings

📸 We spent the entire afternoon last Saturday trying to take these photos in our separate homes with a little help from zoom, what do you guys think? Does anyone have any tips on doing virtual photoshoots? Let us know in the comments!

Was it just me or did anyone’s mental health get shaken up a little in October?⁠

I came across the 2nd post about two weeks ago on account (thank you for sharing) and at first, I smirked because the internet never fails to tell you EXACTLY how you’re feeling, but then I stopped and thought to myself, DAMN, is that you how you’re feeling, Winnie?

I had to begin taking the necessary steps to avoid going through the vicious cycle of depression (see my friends, go out, exercise, take time off work, seek help) but like most people, I’m guilty of not paying closer attention to the signs.

Too often as mums, particularly single-mothers, we’re encouraged to be strong, stay strong, and keep on pushing but the problem with this mentality is that is becomes too difficult for us to be vulnerable.

I want to break down some of those barriers this month by talking through my own challenges with mental health in this week’s 10th episode. 🧠

This is my son, Tyrone but I call him Ty for short. He is 13 y/o but looks older, sometimes he acts older and other times he acts like a toddler 🤷🏾‍♀️

Five facts about him:

1. He was born on Christmas Eve and I remember the nurses making jokes about him not being the Xmas baby.

2. He’s favourite subjects are Maths, Computer Science and History but he’s used his PlayStation controller more than a calculator this lockdown.

3. He spent five years playing football for the local football club and took part in 3 championship matches. He was awarded the ‘man of the match’ trophy in 2018.

4.He’s had two car accidents with no major injuries (1) when he was 2 y/o he ran out of my aunts house and hit by a car driving 20mph. (2) when he was 11 y/o cycling on a one way road.

5. He gives me the best advice and makes me want to be a better person.

Next week we’re travelling with .travel to Cornwall for a bit of summer time fun before he returns to school in two weeks.

Five years ago, if anyone had told me that I would be this content in my life as a single-mother, I would have smiled in their face but politely disagree in my head.

I took this photo a couple of weeks ago, and I think its a perfect portrayal of how content I am in my life right now. I don't have any of the things that are supposed to 'make us' happy but I am the happiest I have ever been.

Keep on working on yourself even if it feels like you’re going nowhere. Happiness is on the other side of the hustle.
