I was hypnotized!
I travelled to Abuja last week.
And while I was out with my friend,
a Hausa man with a fully loaded tray of Kilishi (spicy dried meat) approached us, and the first thing he said was,
"fine girl, buy sweet Kilishi."
The surprising thing was that,
he said it in Igbo dialect,
which happens to be my language.
I was both surprised and curious.
So,
I asked him how he was able to speak Igbo.
He responded with:
"I am usually around the Igbos, so I try as much as possible to learn the language."
This made me give him a warm reception.
And we started conversing.
We spoke in Igbo dialect for over 20 minutes
and I ended up buying Kilishi worth N5,000
Which was not in my budget.
Well,
I almost finished all of it before getting to Benin 😂
But I kept myself in check.
This man literally hypnotized me.
I was so mesmerized that
I just had to patronize him
(Stay with me..)
A man with probably no marketing training was able to win the heart of his target audience and get her to patronize him.
But you!
After spending so much money on different training,
you are yet to knowhow to effectively relate with your target audience to turn them into paying clients
Oya, come closer let me tell you something.
As a personal brand, startup,or even an established organization,
You need to know how to capture and convert your target audience.
These 4 points below will be of great help.
✅ Study your target audience.
The Hausa man knew that the Igbos are
"agba ballers😂" (money makers and equally spenders).
So he started learning everything about them to ensure he gets some of the money they will be spending when they visit Abuja.
And,
It worked!
✅ Know where to find them.
We were sitting in an open bar near the market, where we had gone to buy some items,
when he approached us."
Obviously,
he knew where to find his target audience.
But do you know where to find yours?
Are they on Facebook, and you are looking for them on LinkedIn 🏃🏃
✅ Understand their pain points.
As a visitor in Abuja,
I was honestly looking out for things I could take with me to Benin.
Probably,
the Hausa man saw me looking like a JJC and decided to leverage on that.
You need to find out the unmet needs of your target audience.
The area where they desire improvement or solutions and leverage on that.
✅ loosen up
Learn to inculcate light humor when relating to your target audience.
It doesn't have to be that serious all the time.
Even as an established brand,
Jump on trending slangs
and utilize them to stir reactions and engagement with your target audience.
I remember one very big brand in Nigeria using:
"No gree for anybody."
As part of their advertising copy
It was really fun and brought about massive reactions and engagement from the audience.
🔹 P.S. Have you had Kilishi before?
