This is my tree this year. I love it. Wholeheartedly. And yet itâs taken a lifetime to get here.
See, I bought these decorations in 2020 but this is the first time I have used them all. For the past three years I only used about half of them. As I would start to hang them I would think to myself, âThis is too much. Itâs so over the top. I mean, I know you love pink but this is too much.â So I left half of the ornaments in their original box and stored them away. Oh, and I never had a tree topper because that just took an extra tree a bit too far.
Until this yearâŚ
This year I saw this tree topper and fell head over heels. I thought to myself that there could never be a more perfect tree topper for my tree. But I felt like it was a bit too over the top so I walked away.
As I shopped I felt my Spirit rise up inside me and tell me I needed this tree topper. And I needed to place it atop my tree with every single ornament I had. And thatâs what I did because the truth is this tree is me. I am a bit over the top at times with a splash of extra thrown in for good measure. And I am too much for some people. Thereâs a bit too much sparkle in me for some peopleâs taste. But what Iâve learned after years of striving to be a âgood girlâ is I will never be everyoneâs cup of tea. Which is fine because everyone isnât mine.
The people who know me, the true me, the woman I have fought and clawed to become, they donât just tolerate my sparkle. They celebrate it. They honor it. There are no laments of âtoo muchâ and instead are applause of âshine onâ. And thatâs what I am going to do moving forward. I embrace this pink, sparkly, full-to-overflowing, beacon of light that is my tree with her sequin crown of glory. And I choose to embrace the same in myself.

Lovie, decades of trauma left me feeling stripped of my value. My lovability, my worth, my gifts, and my strengths had been reduced to rubble. Getting free from the trauma didnât change the belief that I was unlovable. Leaving those toxic relationships didnât change the story I had been sold and had bought for decades. I didnât need the abuse to continue for me to keep swinging the lie-filled bat at myself. It is something I continue to work on every minute of every day. Some days I am great at it. And some days I beat myself bloody with the lies.
Learning to be on my team is an intentional choice I have to make constantly. On Episode 66, I share some tools I use because I believe theycan help you love yourself more, too.

The world is constantly working to convince us to look outside ourselves for validation. We compare, weigh, and measure our day-to-day lives against the highlight reels of others. We internalize the Hollywood, magazine-cover ideal and weaponize it against our souls. And instead of knowing our worth, standing tall in the certainty that we are - by birthright - freaking fabulous we diminish our value. It is wrong for us to bench ourselves in our own life because we believe a lie that we arenât enough.
