The CoLab Network, in association with AEJ MUSIC, is proud to present Striking a Chord, starring father and daughter duo Adrian and Emma-Jean Music 🎉

With musical direction by Neil Bennett, this heartfelt show will be staged at Pieter Toerien Productions’s Studio Theatre at Montecasino, for three shows only from Thursday 23rd - Sunday 26th of November.

This follows a successful tour of England in August 2023 and their debut show Accidentally Viral, staged around South Africa in 2022.

The father/daughter bond is palpable as these two compelling performers take the audience on an awe-inspiring musical journey woven together with amusing anecdotes and thoughtful commentary.

It was an absolute pleasure attending the opening night of a brand new pocket musical, 'Actress: The role of a lifetime', last night at the Montecasino Studio Theatre 🎟

Starring the multi-talented Talia Kodesh and bringing to life her own powerful vision, she executes what one might call the role she was truly born for, wearing the shoes she was always meant to fit into👠

Where the spotlight often shines on grand productions, this show was a heartwarming reminder that sometimes, it's the intimate gems that shine the brightest✨

Honouring her story, was an incredible team that executed the show with purposeful brilliance. Actress is produced by the incomparable Collett Dawson who has a knack for putting her support behind worthwhile stories. With original music and lyrics by Bruce Dennill, the story unfolds in the poetic way that mirrors how a true thespian moves through their own experiences - with glitter in their eyes, so to speak.

With ingenious set and costumes by Sarah Roberts, masterful lighting as always by Denis Hutchinson, and layered, thoughtful, fully considered direction by Daniel Geddes, each scene is one that draws and holds not only one's attention, but also one's heart.

Accompanying Talia on stage, with a role totally unique to this show, was the uproarious Nathan Ro, whose performance is one you NEED to experience for yourself.

To me, the story of Actress is less about who you want to be, and more about who you were always meant to become. It's less about an actress, and more about a woman; about her goals and dreams, and why it's important to allow them to change.

It is the story of an actress who is so much MORE than that - she's a wife, mother, and teacher - multifaceted and complicated. And although juggling all those balls can be awfully chaotic, it sure makes for a beautiful stage play.

It's also a story about home. Sometimes, home is a stage. Sometimes, a place. And sometimes, it's the role you were born for, in the hearts of those you love🤍

Peoples Theatre is holding auditions for the Kids Cast of Shrek the Musical JR which is our end of year production opening 07 November.

If you have a child/children who love the stage and know how to sing, dance and act bring them along for the auditions and they could be selected to be a part of this marvellous life-changing experience.

The only thing children who are auditioning will need to prepare is a song from a musical, they will be taught some short choreography on the day and given a few lines to read.

Zip Zap Circus, known for their Proudly South African talent, is back with their mesmerising show, MOYA, meaning 'spirit'🎉⭐

After a successful European tour, they are returning to Johannesburg's Teatro at Montecasino from 31 August to 10 September 2023. The show is in high demand following their successful 2022 season.

MOYA tells the story of Zip Zap Circus, a non-profit organisation that provides free circus training to thousands of South African youths, changing their lives and giving them a sense of belonging. The show features heart-pounding performances, aerial skills, juggling, acrobatics, and more, making it an ideal event for the whole family.

At the heart of MOYA is the story of Trompie (Jacobus Claassen), a former street child whose life was transformed by circus. He now performs and shares his inspiring journey on stage.

The revamped MOYA showcases new acts, original music, and new members. The show's soundtrack, created by Josh Hawk and featuring local musicians and voices, amplifies the vibe and vivacity of MOYA. Landi Lombard is an experienced cast- and production-coordinator with a passion for performance and a love for the casting process. After studying Acting for Camera at City Varsity and completing her BA (Drama) at AFDA, she grabbed the opportunity to work behind-the-scenes in casting.

Her time assisting top casting directors has given her great insight into the casting process. Landi is currently the Joburg representative for Authentik Management and has been gracious enough to share her 8 TOP TIPS FOR ACTORS (from an agent's perspective):

1. Update your headshots – they are your first impression to the casting director so make it a lasting one.
2. Communication is super important. Share your calendar with your agent so they are aware of your schedule.
3. Ask questions frequently – there’s no such thing as a silly question and agents are there to guide you so take advantage of that.
4. Arriving at an audition/set on time means 5-10 minutes early. If you arrive on time, you are late.
5. Preparing for your audition also means doing research about the show, film, production company/people involved.
6. Take your time during an audition, there is no rush – it will take as long as it takes and remember to be off book.
7. Continuously upskill and hone your craft; you can truly never know too much in this industry.
8. Remember to rest – you are not a robot. Self-care is essential for self-development.

Rita White, a young Liverpudlian hairdresser enrolls in an Open University course to study literature to better herself and escape from her drab and dreary working-class world. Along the way, she meets her tutor, Frank Bryant, a jaded professor who quickly becomes fascinated by Rita's offbeat take on the world of academia.

Featured in the titular role of Rita is Fleur du Cap and Naledi nominee, Zoë McLaughlin, last seen in “The Last Five Years” as Cathy Hiatt. Playing opposite her as Professor Frank Bryant is multi-award-winning actor Jason K. Ralph, last seen as Lord Wessex in the Fugard Theatre production of “Shakespeare In Love”. The South African production features a brand-new score by internationally recognised composer Jonathan M. Blair.
