This was back when DJ Khaled called himself “Arab Attack” but changed his name after 9/11.

The 90's renaissance produced some of the greatest artists Hip Hop has ever heard or seen. New York, being the Mecca (inspired our page name), had every element and resource to draw from but there's a formula that has proven it's staying power. The blending of Hip Hop beats and R&B or vice versa. Most of the world would probably credit Diddy and The Hitmen but those that know, know that the mixtape game was bubbling before Bad Boy crystallized this formula. Make no mistake Grandmaster Vic is the father of the blend. Kid Capri and others provided this same energy in the world early but we gotta give the youngest in charge, Ron G () his flowers.

Whether it was in Car, in the Project staircase, BBQ's, walkman or in your room, a Ron G mixtape was life. The icing on the cake was hearing Miss Jones sing over a Jackson 5 instrumental, a Tribe Called Quest instrumental or whatever beat Ron G decided. Miss Jones voice over those beats were the blueprint for what Mary J Blige, Faith, Brandy, Monica etc etc used to catapult their career. At the time people called Diddy a beat biter, but it was actually genius on his part, as he forwarded what another man started.

Ron G represents what was once the most pivotal element of Hip Hop … which was the DJ. For those too young to understand or for those who weren't in tune at that time, go to YouTube and listen to those mixtapes and discover your history.
