The majority of respondents in a recent study identified the workplace as the primary source of stress in their personal lives.

According to the 2024 Workforce State of Mind Report, published by Headspace, “We surveyed more than 2,000 employees, business leaders, and benefits leaders to access the latest trends in workplace mental health. The results showed how work stress is seeping into the personal lives of employees and how their relationships — with co-workers, managers, and leaders — play a significant role in their mental and emotional well-being.”

Nearly half, or 47%, of employees and two-thirds (66%) of CEOs stated that the majority of their stress comes from work, rather than from their personal lives.

Moreover, 77% of employees said that work-related stress has negatively affected their own physical health — with 75% stating that it has caused weight gain.

The data also reveals that 71% of employees said work-related stress has caused a personal relationship to end (listed in the report as “break-ups, divorce, etc.”).

The results reflect the current state of mental health in the workplace, with many professionals struggling to cope with the high demands and pressures of their current jobs.

As the workforce increases its reliance on automation, remote work, and as the lines between work and personal life blurs, it is increasingly important for organizations to prioritize the mental well-being of their employees.

For a lot of places, this is also starting to include the introduction of a to provide employees with a better work/life balance.

BREAKING NEWS: 🗞️🚨Sen. Bernie Sanders and other progressive lawmakers introduced legislation this week that would make a 32-hour workweek the new U.S. standard.

The Vermont independent said that reducing the typical workweek from 40 hours was “not a radical idea,” considering the advancements in productivity in recent decades.

“It is time to reduce the stress level in our country and allow Americans to enjoy a better quality of life,” Sanders said. “It is time for a 32-hour workweek with no loss in pay.”

What do you think? Is a shift to a 32 hour work week, a ‘radical’ proposal?

All in favor of the perma-three-day-weekend? 🙋‍♀️ More than half of the firms in the UK that implemented the revised 32-hour workweek have made it permanent and are recruiting better talent, seeing improved productivity, less turnover, and reporting better employee wellbeing.

Some have even seen increased revenue. The six-month trial of a four-day workweek involved 61 companies and around 2,900 workers.

What’s more? Men involved in the study reported spending more time looking after their children 👏

Germany and Portugal are also trying it out.

Seems to us that a massive change in workforce standards needs to take place...and our bet is that millennials are going to be the ones leading the way.

As boomers begin to retire and millennials work their way into upper management positions, it seems inevitable that flexible working conditions are going to become more and more prevalent.

Repost via 👉The 6-month trial of a four-day workweek in Britain, billed as the world’s largest, has found that an overwhelming majority of the 61 companies and 3,300 employees that participated from June to December will keep going with the shorter hours—more than half making the change permanent.

The weekly hours were shortened to 32 with no reduction in pay.

The businesses ranged from banks to fast-food restaurants to marketing agencies. The study’s organizers include U.K.-based think tank Autonomy and two nonprofits focused on the four-day approach. They worked with researchers at Cambridge University, Oxford University and Boston College to explore how a shorter workweek affects company revenue and productivity, as well as employee turnover and health.

For 82% this included positive effects on staff wellbeing and less stress, 50% found it reduced staff turnover, while 32% said it improved job recruitment. Nearly half (46%) said working and productivity improved.

👏👏👏

In this week’s news; The ADP Research Institute ‘People at Work’ survey shows 30% of Australian workers in 2023 considered the adoption of a four-day working week to be the norm in their industries in the next five years.

These figures reflect not just a desire for reduced hours but also a change to the traditional five-day workweek structure.

According to workplace consultant Angela Ferguson, people accustomed to flexible arrangements following the COVID-19 pandemic are now looking for ongoing work with the same options.

Fantastic to see momentum building in the flexible working space!

It’s all about balance! ⚖️
If you’re a busy business owner who spends 99% of their waking hours working hard…are you really being as productive as you could be?

Studies have shown that rest and rejuvenation allows for much more productive work, than constantly ‘hustling’ and depriving yourself of a balanced, healthy lifestyle.

The same goes for your employees - which is why companies that implement a have reported seeing a huge boost in productivity in their team, despite the shorter work hours.
