At first glance, the backdrop that Michelangelo painted behind the Almighty and his posse of angels seems like just a piece of fabric flowing in the wind. However, upon closer inspection, it’s quite clear that their cloth clock is made to represent the human brain. Given that Michelangelo was highly interested in human anatomy, it’s undeniable that this brain-like outline was painted here on purpose. The mystery that has puzzled historians for centuries, though, has been whether Michelangelo did this to credit God for giving humans the gift of intelligence, or whether he was using his art to discreetly glorify science over religion.

Many survival shows and media show cactus water to be a viable substitute for water should you ever find yourself lost in a desert and have the plant available. However, this is a myth. If you consume cactus water on an empty stomach, you could suffer diarrhea and vomiting which will dehydrate much faster than if you hadn’t drunk it at all.

Due to the similarity between the structure of Mona Lisa’s face and the sketches the Renaissance artist did of himself, some historians have theorized that this mysterious lady is no lady after all. They think that the subject is neither an imaginary woman nor a historical one but rather a self-portrait of Da Vinci dressed as a woman.

The Kayan women traditionally wear brass coils around their necks in order to give the impression that their necks are longer. The Kayan women wear these brass rings from childhood, starting at four or five, and add more rings each year. Surprisingly, the coils can reach a weight of 25 pounds! These rings, which are worn even while the women are sleeping, show a sign of beauty and wealth.

A good piece for any outdoorsman or intrepid survivalist is to never use rocks found near a body of water when constructing a campfire. The trapped moisture within the rock can rapidly evaporate when placed next to a hot fire. This can cause the rocks to expand suddenly, resulting in a dangerous explosion.

These nomadic cattle herders found in the Sahel, a semi-arid region in the south of the Sahara Desert, have extremely unique cultural practices. The Wodaabe are known for the tradition of Gerewol, a prestigious festival in which men compete for love. The Wodaabe men paint their faces in bright colors, wear colorful clothes and perform a series of dance routines to attract women.

If you are very particular about your boiled eggs, this guide is for you. For soft-boiled eggs, all you need is to boil them for 6.5 minutes. If you prefer hard-boiled eggs, try boiling them for 12 minutes. Our favorite is medium-boiled, though, 8 minutes are enough to cook them to perfection!
