TONIGHT!!! 7 PM in Jobe Hall Auditorium we will welcome Dr. Beverly Tsacoyianis from the University of Memphis!

Her talk entitled "Gaza: War and Trauma in Historical Context" will put the war in Gaza in historical context by connecting examples of ethnic cleansing, antisemistism, and Islamophobia to recent regional conflicts in the Middle East - and to reactions in the United States.

Beverly Tsacoyianis is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Memphis, with a background in trauma studies and disability studies. Her first book, Disturbing Spirits: Mental Health, Trauma, and Treatment in Modern Syria and Lebanon (University of Notre Dame Press, 2021) won an Outstanding Academic Title Award from CHOICE in 2022. She is co-editor (with Sara Scalenghe) of a forthcoming volume with Bloomsbury Press on disability history in the modern Middle East and is also working on her second single-authored monograph, about disability and trauma in Israel and Palestine.

For more information on this event, please contact Dr. Chuck Westmoreland at [email protected].
