The National Emergency Management Organization announces ALL CLEAR.

No tsunami wave has been observed and the threat of a tsunami has passed.

Residents are asked to remain vigilant and to be keep their emergency plans updated.

Please continue to monitor all advisories issued by NEMO.

EARTHQUAKE ADVISORY
As at 18:00 PM, SATURDAY, 8TH FEBRUARY, 2025

The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) hereby advises the following message as a result of an earthquake experienced on February 8th, 2025:

EARTHQUAKE PARAMETERS:
* MAGNITUDE 7.6
* ORIGIN TIME 2323 UTC FEB 8 2025
* COORDINATES 17.8 NORTH 82.5 WEST
* DEPTH 33 KM / 20 MILES
* LOCATION NORTH OF HONDURAS

EVALUATION:
AN EARTHQUAKE WITH A PRELIMINARY MAGNITUDE OF 7.6 OCCURRED NORTH OF
HONDURAS AT 2323 UTC ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2025.

THERE HAS BEEN NO OBSERVED TSUNAMI WAVE AT THE MOMENT, BUT IT IS STILL POSSIBLE WITHIN IN THE NEXT 3O MINUTES.

RECOMMENDED ACTIONS:
RESIDENTS LIVING ALONG THE COAST OF BELIZE ARE TO BE PREPARED TO MOVE TO HIGHER ELEVATIONS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. BE PREPARED TO MOVE IMMEDIATELY TO HIGHER
GROUND OR TO UPPER FLOORS IF ORDERED.

PREPARE AN EVACUATION GO-BAG TO BE USED IF REQUIRED.

RESIDENTS ARE TO MONITOR ALL ADVISORIES ISSUED BY NEMO.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology announces the suspension of in-person classes at all levels until Monday, 25th November 2024, for schools in:

📍 Benque Viejo del Carmen Town
📍 San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town
📍 Surrounding villages of Benque Viejo and San Ignacio/Santa Elena Towns

Where possible, schools in these areas are encouraged to transition to online or distance learning during the suspension period.

Classes in the rest of the country will continue on their regular schedules. Managing Authorities are asked not to penalise teachers and students for absences or tardiness related to weather or road conditions in their communities.
