South Carolina has a vault of interesting talent, leaking out little by little as time goes on, and Spartakizz is a part of that collection. Now residing in New York, the South Carolina native has a sound worth listening to. The first track I heard, “Ben Frank” Featuring Ansto, came on with the chorus, which is one that caught my attention…in an off-guard way. I was wishing I wouldn’t hate the song from the beginning, and by the end, I almost loved it. I even grew an appreciation for the chorus After hearing what the verses had to offer. In his first verse he says, “I’m a student. Let them think I’m stupid, watch how I maneuver/Move bitch, get out the way. Feel like I’m Luda.” Interesting Because judging off the initial chorus I thought, Okay, another mumble rapper using the weird singing voice and probably gonna sound verbally challenged in the verses. Then the first few bars were good ones and I was caught off guard all over again, this time in a good way. Not to say I don’t like mumble rap, but I was surprised to hear the contrast in the verse, being this was the song I’m first hearing by him. By the second listen, even the chorus is making sense to me now. “They don’t even keep that sh*t a-ben frank. All these n*ggas ‘round here actin different” Nice slight twist to “they don’t even keep that sh*t a hunnid.” This song definitely sounds like it could be accepted by the masses, because there’s something about it that sounds like what’s out there; Yet, something about it that’s original. “Cash” is a more upbeat song, showing versatility in the artist. He almost sounds like a completely different person on this one. This song is definitely for a party. I like it because his voice slightly reminded me of good ol pastor Troy. This track gives me feels of a jumpin’ hole-in-the-wall party in the backwoods of South Carolina.
