Retaliatory strikes on US bases, claims report
After attacks on bases and arsenals of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps and Iran-backed groups in Syria, this time the US base occupied in the country has been retaliated against.
The retaliatory strike hit a US military base in Deir al-Zawwar province in eastern Syria early Friday morning.
Lebanon's Al-Mayadeen news network, citing sources, reported the explosion at a base housing US troops at the Conoco gas field.
Saberin News, a Telegram news channel affiliated with the Iraqi anti-terrorist Popular Mobilization Unit, also reported rocket attacks on the base.
There have also been reports of drone strikes against US military forces around Erbil airport in northern Iraq.
However, the extent of casualties and damage in the incident was not immediately known.
A US military official said that the attack was carried out on the base and arsenal of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps and Iran-backed groups in Syria on Thursday night. After that, this counter-attack happened on the US base.
In a statement, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin claimed the strike was in "self-defense" and was ordered by President Biden in response to a series of recent drone attacks on US bases in Syria and Iraq. They claim that the US bases in Iraq and Syria have been attacked 16 times recently.
