On the first evening of the 2022 Festival de Noël in Braemar, Scotland, there was a Jazz Cafe evening with Vocalist Rachel Lightbody and Jazz pianist Tom Gibbs. This was in the Braemar Duke of Rothesay Pavilion and the duo were kind enough to play a Christmas song by request. All the more fitting as the snow scenes here were recorded on the evening after leaving the Pavilion.

Vocalist Rachel Lightbody is a Scottish Jazz Awards finalist and Tom Gibbs is one of the UK's most innovative jazz pianists. The vintage Girls seen here Puttin' on the Ritz at the Aberdeen Jazz Festival 2022. "Puttin' On the Ritz" is a song written by Irving Berlin. He wrote it in May 1927 and first published it on December 2, 1929. It was registered as an unpublished song August 24, 1927 and again on July 27, 1928.It was introduced by Harry Richman and chorus in the musical film Puttin' On the Ritz (1930). According to The Complete Lyrics of Irving Berlin, this was the first song in film to be sung by an in*******al ensemble. The title derives from the slang expression "to put on the Ritz", meaning to dress very fashionably. This expression was in turn inspired by the opulent Ritz Hotel in London.

Vintage Girls performing at their sold out gig at the 2022 Aberdeen Jazz Festival. “Someone to Watch Over Me" is a 1926 song composed by George Gershwin with lyrics by Ira Gershwin, assisted by Howard Dietz who penned the title. It was written for the musical Oh, Kay! (1926), with the part originally sung on Broadway by English actress Gertrude Lawrence while holding a rag doll in a sentimental solo scene.

"Cheek to Cheek" performed by Marianne McGregor, a major new voice in the Scottish Jazz scene. This was from her concert at The Blue Lamp on 17th March during the 2022 Aberdeen Jazz Festival. On stage with her are renowned Jazz musicians Colin Steele on trumpet, Brian Kellock on piano, Jim Drummond on drums and Laurie Moore on double bass. "Cheek to Cheek" is a song written by Irving Berlin specifically for Fred Astaire, the star of his new musical Top Hat. The song spent five weeks at No.1 on the Hit Parade and was named the No.1 song of 1935.

"It's All Right" performed by talented Jazz vocalist Irini Arabatzi and Jazz pianist Fergus McCraedie at the Blue Lamp in Aberdeen. This was part of their concert during the 2021 Aberdeen Jazz Festival in Scotland. "It's All Right" is a 1963 song recorded by The Impressions, written by the group's lead singer, Curtis Mayfield, covered since by many of the world's top musical artists.

Irini Arabatzi is a jazz singer from Greece, who studied classical piano and later discovered jazz and improvisation, along with world and traditional music, which became one of her biggest inspirations. You can see more on her page: https://www.facebook.com/irini.arabatzi

International Jazz Day is the 30th April and what better way to celebrate than listen to some Jazz! Corlaie and Conner seen here at the Aberdeen Art Gallery as part of the Aberdeen Jazz Festival lineup. The idea of International Jazz Day came from jazz pianist and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock.

"Pennies from Heaven" is a 1936 American popular song with music by Arthur Johnston and lyrics by Johnny Burke. It was introduced by Bing Crosby with Georgie Stoll and his Orchestra in the 1936 film of the same name and also recorded that year by Billie Holiday.

Here is an extract from Jazz saxophonists Matthew Kilner and Konrad Wiszniewski finishing their 'Two Tenors' concert for the 2022 Aberdeen Jazz Festival, performing one of Matthew's compositions called "The Music of the People". Playing with them were talented Jazz musicians Neil Birse on piano, Ewan Hastie on bass and Richard Glassby on drums.

The song "Misty" performed by Marianne McGregor, a major new voice in the Scottish Jazz scene. This was from her concert at the Blue Lamp on 17th March for the 2022 Aberdeen Jazz Festival. "Misty" is a jazz standard written in 1954 by pianist Erroll Garner. He composed it as an instrumental but lyrics were added later by Johnny Burke. It became the signature song of Johnny Mathis and a popular Jazz standard, recorded many times, including versions by Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.

The Vintage Girls playing their energetic rendition of the classic jazz tune “Candy Man”. This performance was at their sold out Aberdeen Jazz Festival gig at the Society of Advocates. “The Candy Man" is a song that originally appeared in the 1971 film W***y Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. It was written by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley specifically for the film.

Birmingham based Jazz band Young Pilgrims getting the audience on their feet with their track "Hall of Meet" in Aberdeen, Scotland. This was the opening from their concert at The Blue Lamp during the 2022 Aberdeen Jazz Festival on Friday 25th March.

The Young Pilgrims’ adventurous brass-heavy, rock-influenced sound is brought together by their explosive nine-strong line-up. This includes trumpets and trombones, baritone sax, sousaphone and two drummers, all driving the band’s high-energy rhythmic groove. Their latest album 'We're Young Pilgrims' was released in June 2021 and is available from Stoney Lane Records.

Hola Amigo!! Whisky Por Favor are playing the late night Jazz House Party for the Aberdeen Jazz Festival at Blue Lamp. Come along to be at the most happening dance parrtty this side of the equator!

Whisky Por Favor, formed by Scottish guitarist Innes Cardno- Musicien Maudit and Spanish singer/guitarist Javier Burón paying tribute to some 90s rave anthems in Edinburgh’s St Andrew’s Square.

Tommy Smith - Saxophonist experimenting with Blues Form - he calls it Blacken' Blue. This sold out gig at St Machar's Cathedral was in association with Aberdeen Jazz Festival and Jazz at The Blue Lamp. Tommy is set to play Dunblane Cathedral on Sunday 26th September. Not to be missed!
