I'll get started working out the logistics of this and what it will look like and let you all know soon!

Can't wait to get back to talking to you all about Roman History.

I only hope I do Roman Emperors: Totalus Rankium Podcast a little bit of justice and make Roman History as interesting as they do!

Despite being dormant for a long time the page has been getting some traction over recent weeks which has blown my mind!

A relaunch of the podcast is in the works, a bit of a homage to Mike Duncan's a history of Rome and hopefully some interviews with experts along the way.

To celebrate rebirths here's Aeneas carrying Anchises as Troy falls on his way to begin the lineage for the foundation of Rome. Sculpted by Berini in the 17th Century.

Earlier I posted a blog entitled ' What a meagre tomb for a man so rich in Temples'

Well, I thought I'd show you just how beautiful a tomb from Ancient Rome could be, especially on the inside.

Introducing to you the Tomb of the Valerii, although this name does not reflect the name of the original occupants of the tomb, on the Via Latina, constructed in the second half of the second century CE the tomb's exterior is grand, split over two levels with columns in the doorway.

The interior is simply stunning, brightly coloured. It just goes to show the amount of care put in to honouring loved ones, and that there must have been repeat visits to the tomb by family members, why else go to this expense?

Remember the underground home we showed a couple of days ago?

Well here's another a stone's throw away from that Domus! The modern day Church was built in the 4th/5th Century, however the property was originally owned by the (not then) emperor Trajan.

The ownership passed into the imperial estate and at some point in the 3rd Century this Mithraeum was built.

Visiting it was something else! With its original central isle and stone benches heading towards the focal point of the sculpture of Mithras at the end.

This time we look at Pompey's dedication to Venus once he returned to Rome!

https://jonlang929.wixsite.com/oldthingsare/post/that-s-no-theatre-it-s-a-temple

Pompey’s return to Rome marks a shift from the religious programme that he adopted in the east. It goes from stressing his own divinity, in the way of a Hellenistic ruler, to honouring the Gods of Rome in a more traditional manner. This particular post will focus on Pompey’s honouring of Venus. ...

Ever wondered what sort of thing would have been shown off during a Roman Triumphal Procession? Well, as well as the army and general marching through Rome there would also be great treasures.

Like this Krater (a Greek mixing bowl) That is said to have belonged to Mithradates VI, largely due to his name being inscribed on the object.

This would have been paraded through the streets of Rome, maybe by Sulla or Pompey on their return from the East as heroes.

If you'd like to hear more about the relationship between Pompey and Sulla it is covered briefly in the Latest episode of the Old Things Are Always In Good Repute Podcast!

If you could self isolate anywhere where better than here in its glory day?

The Villa of the Quintilii, so large that the locals believed it to be an entire town.

Commodus, he of Ridley Scott's Gladiator, certainly liked it. Having the Quintilii brothers killed and confiscated the property in to imperial possession.

It was large enough to have its own aqueduct to feed the baths and may have been where Cleander met his end...

What's the strangest thing you've found in the basement area of your workplace?

It may take some beating compared to what I was invited to see back in 2016.

Hidden some metres under a Solicitor's office was an Ancient Domus, beautifully preserved and restored.

Due to lack of oxygen in the area we were only allowed to stay in there for around 10 minutes!

With the world in lockdown and the weather being as beautiful as it is I've decided to try and trick myself in to thinking of easier times.

Today I'm trying to place myself back to 2016 when I studied at the British School at Rome.
