"NOT DEAD YET is a contemplative landscape short film by Eli Hayes & I that ruminates about life post-addiction. Shot in December 2018 along the Gulf Coast as I struggled with substance abuse, and then written in July 2019 as I was four months sober, the image and story exist in separate spaces & identities. When edited together, it's a reclaiming of lost time -- a way to imbue these hopeless & somber visuals with confidence, understanding, and life. I liken it to a sort of "postcard cinema," which is to say this combination of uninflected nature photography and on-screen text narration produces an almost postcard effect. These messages speak to past and future selves, as they navigate recovery and what it means to be human." - Aniello De Angelis
