Looking back on my journey to actually *becoming* a social media manager, it was slow 😳
But back in 2018 there was no one to help me, there were no online resources, and a social media manager was hardly a thing! So I had to learn it slowly and all on my own.
I can't believe it took me almost 2 years to go full-time in my business 🤯 My aim inside YSL is that you can quit your job within 6 months 🤝 and that's because I teach you everything I learned since 2018 in a 1 x 10-hour course.
This course was everything I needed when I was depressed in my job, wishing life was different, and not knowing what to do.... well, this is it.

*Insert eye roll here 🙄*
SURE - if coca cola came to a newbie freelancer and was like "We want help" this ain't going to work.
BUT there are different types of businesses out there. There is the new Mum trying to run her side-hustle and take care of her baby at the same time. There is a candle business that is HAPPY to keep creating orders from her bedroom. There is the stationary business that can't afford Mr Agency land.
These businesses ⬆️ Don't need your $6,000 minimum a month knowledge. Sometimes they just want brand awareness and ya know what? That's OK.
I target small businesses, and I teach you how to do that to.

As someone who thrives on being in new places, having a job that allows me to open my laptop and gets my juices flowing.
I've said this before: I accidentally became a social media manager, this wasn't the plan when I got my first Airtasker job, but it sure as heck makes sense.
I get bored with my surroundings and do the same tasks over and over, so sitting in an office doing the same daily things really puts a damper on my life. I've had over 20 jobs purely because I just 'get bored'
Now? Sure, I still 'work' but I'm in total control. Control of who I work with, the services I offer, what cafe I want to be at, if I want to work in trackies or a blazer – these are all decisions that I get to choose every day.
THAT is what I love about being a social media manager.

Last week something happened in my business...
I had always DREAMED of this happening but I never thought it was possible 😯
Someone dropped into my DM's and asked if I'd film their wedding...
.. IN BALI 🌴
I'd been flown to Sydney multiple times for clients before to film events, and I take products with me when I go overseas, but for someone to personally reach out and ask me to be the creator on their special day... 🥲
*happy dance* I'll be sharing more details on how and what I did to lock this in while being able to keep the price cheaper for the client - but realistic for me to ya-know, fly to another-damn-country,

Life just feels different. It's hard work juggling a 'real job' and a side-hustle-yah... but there's something about building a business that just makes life a little better.
After doing my YSL course, I expect your first client in the first 2 months, from there they'll come in faster and faster.

THIS happens. When you're in front of a computer for a few hours bulk-creating content there's bound to be a mistake somewhere.
This is why we get clients to double-check everything that goes out.
What I suggest doing is doing a spell-check before you send to the client, and also doing your own check when scheduling content.

I get it, one of the things holding you back from becoming a is the need to show your face.
What if I told you there are other ways to market yourself, other than talking to the camera?
I didn't start talking to the camera until the year 2 mark, this was because I didn't think I had much to say 🤔 [and I was kinda scared of what people thought] instead I
💜 Used old travel photos to say what I needed to
💜 Filmed myself in the distance instead of up close
💜 Used photos and videos of my working space
💜 Filmed time-lapses of the back of my head
You'll find that once you do all of these things, you will build up the confidence to start talking to the camera. It's all about the little steps 🪜

The statistics on how much we work over a lifetime are crazy.
So crazy, I don't even want to research because I already know I've wasted time doing jobs I hated.
Why spend years of your life working for someone else, when you could be working for yourself.
Making your own decisions.
Choosing your own hours.
Doing what you want to do.
All you need is a laptop, imagine all the places you can go with that 😉

If I could pinpoint the moment I knew I was never going to let myself work a job I hated, it was this trip to Sydney.
My sister and I went over there in late 2016 because I had a job interview for – I didn't get it. It wasn't that I hated my job – I was comfortable, I'd been there for a few years and I was not at all qualified to be working in such a massive company. I could have stayed, worked my way up, and retired at 60, easily. This is what most people were doing in the team.
butttt something just didn't *feel* right? I started to question if this was it, all that I had, If this was my life now? forever. I remember looking around at the 80 people in my office and seeing how old they were and how unhappy they looked. I couldn't do it.
So I applied for this job – after I flanked the contiki interview I applied to and got that. But this Sydney trip was a pivotal moment for me. I was ready to do everything in my power to do something different.
After this interview, I went on to work 5 jobs before I went full-time in my business.

I just spent 3 weeks exploring Italy without my laptop.... and no one cared. I mean, my Mum cared [hello daily facetimes] but my clients? 🤷♀️ couldn't give a crap, lol.
You know why? Because I did the work, I kept my comms clear, I checked-in with them BEFORE, during, and after the trip, and I made sure everything I needed to do for them – was done 🛑
I'm still getting emails now asking if I'm away and I've been back for two weeks. Told you, they don't care.
Winding back 🔙 clients also don't care how you got to the stage you're at. They don't ask for your degree or where you went to school, they just see your work and trust you can help.
Don't overthink it, just start 💜

I've spoken to a lot of girls lately who don't want to commit to the YSL course because they don't think they can do it.
I'm here to SHOW you and TEACH you that you damn 👏🏻 well 👏🏻 can!
Believe in yourself. You are braver than you think, more talented than you know, and
capable of more than you imagine.
I created this course so that ANYONE either experienced or not, can pick up this course and finally be on the next stepping stone to living another life.
There are plenty of courses out there that can teach social media marketing, but this one teaches you SMM, business and starting.
It's different and so are you.

The biggest mistake you can make is to expect it to work straight away.
It doesn't. But it does work – eventually.
If you know right now that your current job isn't for you, you need to start laying the foundations so that when you're totally in a few months time [we know this is going to happen] you already have a lil' somethin' somethin' going to fall back on.

I can tell you this much, she was over-worked, over-stimulated, and over-chasing-invoices but she was happy. Cause it was her own.

When I say it's *this easy*.... it's this easy.
Can you create an Instagram account?
Do you have access to the Internet?
Can you use or learn to use canva?
Do you write and speak english?
Then you got this.
Sure, my course will take you step-by-step through how to set up a business, and also give you all the templates and information you need to sell your own socials... but essentially? Just do this ⬆️ You can figure the rest out.

For the first two years in my business, I didn't have any contracts in place 😳
and this lost me over $3,000 and time and energy spent chasing after people.
I use to think "If I send this client a contract I'm going to scare them away and they aren't going to book with me anymore" 😡🫨
BUT once a client tried to send me to court, and my court fees were quadruple what I was chasing from them, I knew something had to change.
The way I word it now is that the contract is for BOTH of us – it's to promise THEM that I'll do the work to their quality, and it's to make sure they don't run away with unpaid invoices [this has literally happened]

Just a gal and her laptop tryna teach you kids how to live life on your own terms.
Trust me what I say, if I can do this, anyone can. I was nothing special, I didn't have the best marketing mind, I wasn't business focused, all I wanted was something that I could control on my own.
Being a social media manager gives me freedom to do that. Life on my terms.
and I created Your Social Life because I wanted to give this life to others, to show that there is a possibility to *actually* love what you do.

Becoming a social media manager is so unique because a university degree isn't going to be able to teach you what you know.
It has to be on your own / through an updated course. Because the online space changes so-damn-much. Like, every damn day...
A uni degree can't give you that. But your social life can 😉

[I actually get physically angry writing about this lol!] You spend more time at work than you do anywhere else in your life.
So if you're in a job that makes you feel like literally *any* of these things – why tf would you spend your life there? 🤔
and ya know what? I know these are extremely basic feelings – but I know some of you HATE your job but feel there's no other option. I know you often go to the bathroom to cry. I know you can't stand up to your boss because you feel like the owe you.
I KNOW all too well – because that was ME. Until I stood up for myself and started to build a life I wanted to actually live.
