Thanks for these sweet words Mrs. Laura Reynolds❤️❤️❤️. For those of you who don’t know Laura was my cheerleading coach. She is the reason I can spell aggressive. Be Aggressive B-E Aggressive. B-E A-G-G-R-E-S-S-I-V-E! And when sitting in the bleachers I frequently have cheers running through my head. As a kid she was my definition of cool. I got to watch her go from a single teacher to married. To mothering her beautiful girls. I will never forget when I had my oldest her and her girls came to visit us with so much joy and excitement on their faces it was and is still so special to me.

What if you could have a conversation with someone who was theologically sound, a great communicator, and an experienced licensed therapist to talk about the emotions we struggle with, and what to do with them?

We were fortunate enough to get back on Heidi Goehmann to talk about her new book: "Emotions and the Gospel." She gives a ton of gospel for our emotions, and help us to see where there is grace for us, as well as grace for the emotions of others.
We walk through feeling shame for feeling "too emotional," how we are made in the image of God, and getting a strong theological foundation to view emotion.

She talks about restoration vs regulation, and misconceptions or "partial truths" we have about emotions.

This was such a life giving conversation and left us with so much to think about.

Do we need to repent of our emotions?
What if we can’t even diagnose what we are feeling?

Listen here:
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/emotions-and-shame/id1528892253?i=1000564985107

We are in the season when my hubby leaves before the sun comes up and returns long after the sun has gone down.

He recently called me so I could make a delivery to the seed shed. He had ripped his pants from crotch to knee and they were currently being held together by duct tape.

I drove home after work, grabbed three pairs of pants, and made the 50-minute drive to the seed shed. I was looking forward to seeing him, kissing him, and maybe even talking to him during daylight hours.

As I showed him the three options I brought I could see the disappointment in his face.

I stewed as I drove. Halfway through my drive home I decided to let him have it via text message. I’ll spare you the vernacular I used but I assure you I had made myself clear.

In short order I received a call from my exhausted husband filled with apologies.

Did this mean I needed to apologize for my emotions, for the hurt I felt?
Did I need to repent of my feelings of resentment and anger?

I’m not sure.

I am sure I needed forgiveness for shooting off a text message that I knew would produce guilt and anxiety for him.

In this situation, I talked through this scenario on a recent episode of freely given and was able to diagnose or call a thing what it was. But what if I hadn’t been able to? Would there still be forgiveness?

YES!! WITHOUT A DOUBT.

While I do not need to diagnose or call something what it is for forgiveness to abound, being able to do that does help my own mental dissonance and my relationships.

Long relationships like marriage and patience from others have a way of highlighting this dynamic in our lives. Regardless of our ability to call a thing what it is, forgiveness abounds. Working through emotions, asking forgiveness when our emotions cloud your judgment and cause us to hurt those we love do worlds of good for our own mental health and our relationships with one another.

If you can not rightly identify emotions that have caused you to hurt your neighbor they are still forgiven.

Working to identify them will be beneficial to our mental health and relationships.

We interviewed Kelsi Klembara after she spoke at the recent "Here We Still Stand" Regional Conference in Bentonville, Arkansas. She spoke about the embodiment of our redemption, and how our theology of the body can effect how we view eating disorders, chronic health issues, various health improvement programs and even the body positivity movement.

She points to the story of the bleeding woman who touches Jesus' cloak, and brings it all back to Christ.

We invited Old Testament and Hebrew scholar, Chad Bird, to talk to us about Proverbs 31. This passage talking about a wife of noble character is often discussed in women's Bible studies or events. It's used to inspire, accuse, exhaust, or at least show us some kind of standard that we feel we can never reach. Chad explains how we can look at this text--and other texts, asking the question "what is Christ doing in this passage?" He shares that looking at the Bible through a "moralistic ego-centric" lens leads to legalism, and leads us to ask the wrong questions.
He explains how the book of Proverbs points to Christ as "wisdom" and when we see that, it's a key to looking at the whole book.
He shares 3 layers or tiers to look at Proverbs 31: it's about Christ, it's about the church (his body), and finally it's about wives.
Where is Christ in Proverbs 31? Listen into to this mind blowing episode. You'll never be able to look at Proverbs 31 the same again.

Investing in women may not have a traditional return but it is still so important.

Since love is a gift and not an investment we don't need to fret about what the return is. Teaching, disciplining, and walking alongside women is a way to love the individual and the church as a whole.

We don't need to look for what is being produced by our investment. We know good things are being produced because Christ is working through us.

This truth is so easy to forget.

Forgetting that we are forgiven impacts our mental health, relationships, well being, vocations and the list goes on and on.

Remembering that in Christ we are forgiven gives us the freedom to go to another and confess our wrongs.

It gives is freedom to keep moving forward.

It gives us the freedom to serve those around us.

It removes the weight of being@yoked to our faults and hurts.

As you start this week remember that because of the work of Christ. You. Are. Forgiven. Live free this week as you grows and sustains you.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights with whom there is no variation.” (James 1:17) So writes James in his epistle to a church under attack. Persecution, false teachings, and loveless actions were among the problems troubling God.....

I don’t remember what was said right before, but I do remember my pastor looking at me and saying, “Katie, you do know that you are forgiven. If you have forgotten, hear this and know you are forgiven.”

That pronouncement of forgiveness changed the trajectory of my life. Hearing that proclamation of forgiveness shifted me from a place of self-justifying and trying to redeem myself to one of forgiven freedom.

The proclamation of forgiveness shifted the service of my vocations from a place of trying to prove myself and redeem myself to living in the freedom I have because of the work of Christ. Self-justifying and attempting to redeem ourselves will leave us exhausted and eventually unable to serve. The tank will become empty. We are lying to ourselves when we try to justify our failures. We can never do enough to redeem ourselves.

The struggle to identify sin, confess it, and hear the proclamation of forgiveness instead of self-justifying, rationalizing, or creating a self-salvation project is constant in the life of a Christian. It has been in mine. Thankfully, we can go to our pastor, confess, and be absolved. We can go to the altar and receive the same forgiveness in the bread and wine, the body and blood. We can stand in church and confess that we are sinners and immediately hear the proclamation that we are forgiven.

Christians everywhere need forgiveness and are offered it freely, no matter how big the sin may seem.

In one more episode before our interview, we wanted to go over Titus 2, which is often the prooftext given for the false idea that men and women are sanctified differently. This episode could fit both in our discussion of womanhood in the Bible, as well as verses frequently taken out of context.

The misunderstanding in this passage comes when we start reading only when it references women. We must go back further, where the context is teaching sound doctrine.

This episode dips into Gretchen's online course on "Gospel Mentoring" which looks at this passage within the context of law and gospel distinctions, and the gets to the heart of sharing the gospel with the next generation.

Gretchens latest article in Faith and Fellowship.

In it she speaks about a word that can sometimes claw at our skin and make us think we should put on a head covering or run the opposite direction.

‘Submission, at its root, is an act of humility. Submission is only possible within freedom, otherwise it’s oppression. Oppression is an act done against you, and submission is an act of humility that you do for someone else. In other words, don’t just humble yourself in the sight of the Lord. Humble yourself in the sight of your neighbors, and serve them.

Serve others freely. Know the place of the law in your Christian walk. It’s not about being oppressive. The law 1) accuses us, 2) restrains us, 3) instructs us. Notice, the law never saves us or redeems us. That’s not its job. It’s not restoring us to God—that’s the work of Christ, not the law. It is, though, a healthy guide for loving your neighbor. Don’t steal, don’t lie. Put the best construction on what they say and do. Give others the benefit of the doubt. Don’t hurt others. Look after them. Love generously—with humility. The gospel doesn’t abolish the law; it tells us Jesus fulfilled it.’

Freedom and Submission It can be a nagging question: if we all have the same Holy Spirit in us, shouldn’t we have the exact same convictions on everything? If we are all reading the same Bible, and we all have been baptized into the same Spirit, then why don’t we agree about things more often? A...

Regardless of how your kids are receiving their education this article is a good reminder: Our kids souls are in the hands of God not ours. None of our salvation gimmicks will work on our kids. We have assurance in the work of Christ for them.
