⭐Heros of the Dining Car⭐

These cooks had a tough job. Not only did they have to work quickly in a full kitchen that was really tight quarters, they had to work within rationing and restricted food availabilities. Add to that the motion of a moving train... 😳 These men's skills are definitely to be appreciated and admired! Plus, I can't even imagine how hot it got in there. 🥵

When food stocks were running low, at the next long train stop, the steward was in charge of gathering as much food as he possibly could in whatever town they happened to be in. Imagine the stress and unpredictability of that!

* This image is part of an educational set of photographs about transportation that belonged to my Great-Grandpa Glenn. It's one of two things I inherited from him. I'm so happy I get to use it for my podcast! 😊

There are a few cool things about this card. First, the inscription on the back is so very sweet. ❤️
Second, it's addressed to Muncie, Indiana which is where I went to school my first year of college (Ball State) and is where I set my most recently published book, Falling Like Rain. ❤️
And last, check out that awesome army examiner stamp!

I've got some exciting news... My podcast will be airing on the radio station WLVN 1940s Radio the first and third Thursdays of the month! (That starts today!) What a cool opportunity, eh? 😊
It airs 5 am and 5 pm MST, so whether you're here in the states or across the pond, you can listen to my podcast live! To access the radio station online, go to 1940sradiowlvn[dot]com. You can also follow on Instagram .

This radio station has a cool mission: they are dedicated to playing 1940s music and radio shows the day they were played back in the 40s. ❤️ They are currently in 1941!
So if you're looking for a little audio time travel, definitely check out their website to listen live or their uploads for past broadcasts!

Imitation spices in cardboard containers from WWII.

Crescent Pure Spices brand was the maker of the famous Mapeline. They really embraced the imitation spices and flavorings to help offset the spice shortages during the war.
My last episode of Season 2 is up for your listening pleasure! You can find it wherever you get your podcasts.

I've been working on the research for my next episode all about dieting in wartime. Sadly, some of my resources are stuck in the mail system somewhere, so I might need to record without them... Here's hoping they show up soon!!!

I've just posted a new episode talking about WWII and our current global pandemic. Lots of interesting parallels and lessons to be learned too. :)

The first episode is recorded and exported! Woohoo! The work isn't done yet, though. I need to write up the post for the podcast blog at victorykitchenpodcast.com. This is where I'll be putting up pictures of the ration cookbooks and recipes that I highlight along with the full list of the research resources I used to make the episode. I'm planning on launching the podcast with 4 episodes ready to go, so one down, three to go!

05/01/2020

Status update: My first four episodes are in the planning/writing stages. I'm hoping to begin recording this month!

21/12/2019

Great news! Preparations are underway and the podcast is set to launch March 2020!
