Since we live in rocky forest mountains, one thing we have to watch out for is rock slides. Not life threatening but they do block the roads sometimes.
We're remote and luckily we can call the city to come handle most of them. But sometimes, I enjoy a good ol fashion country life workout 😉
Out here saving lives like it's my job!!
I just learned how frogs lay eggs in this foamy looking nest. Normally it's over water so when the tadpoles drop they just fall in.
But this nest is just over some concrete, I've had my eye on it for a few days but this morning I started seeing tadpoles dying on the ground. So naturally, I got a pan of water and just kept it under the nest until they were finished then poured it off into somewhere I know they would be safe.
There's always something new here to see and learn. 🥰❤️

When you love the countryside and want to capture it for your friends and family but hate talking in videos. So you keep it 100 with your actual vibe on the voiceover 😂
This is a fresh deer broth I make from scratch everytime the locals catch a deer. We don't like to waste so we plan and freeze things for later. #japanlife #offgrid #offgridjapan #homestead
I bet you didn't expect this! 😯
Our first greenhouse. Everyone that lives in a house needs one of these, even if it's super simple.
One for sure thing covid showed us is how reliant we are on the system for every single thing in our lives. It was scarey in a way noticing that reality.
But having your own vegetable garden is one way to put that power back in your hands. We want to grow and build off of this so much more but this is a good start.
I'm sure we're not the only ones that realized how vulnerable we are? #offgrid #diygreenhouse #homestead #japan #livinginjapan
We found a salamander in a pool of tadpoles on our hike up the mountain today. 🥰 #japansalamander #japanesenature

Spring time means planting season. 😄 #offgridliving #japanlife #gifu #homegarden
The mountain water is so ice cold we just keep the beers cooled 🥰 #nature #beercooler #Japan
Since we get our water from the top of the mountain. They often have to go up to clear any clogs or damage to the pipe. It can be a hassle driving this long road having to move any fallen branches or rocks out of the road.
But its all worth it to get constant fresh mountain water directly to the village. People here often ask us why we chose this area of Japan to live. It's not popular and very remote, but one of the biggest reasons was unlimited access to fresh clean water.
In a world full of wars and everyone having less trust any of the systems and at the same time all of us relying on those systems for everything in our daily lives. We're on a mission to rely on ourselves. Water is a no question to achieve that! #selfsustainable #offgrid #livinginjapan
