Why do Muslims use the Bible for their doctrinal proofs?
Let me use this space to clear up certain misunderstandings amongst even some Muslims, which some Christian missionaries are trying to take advantage of.
Muslims do not believe that the Torah and the Gospel are lost or completely lost. The Qur'anic position about the Torah and Gospel is very clear. That is, these books are not in their original forms as revealed to Moses and Jesus pbuh. They have been grossly compromised by their respective custodians. Even their well-meaning and respected scholars have established that these books have undergone many additions and subtractions, rendering them far from original. The internal contents show that certain traditions and customs have been inserted into them. Some books have been taken out and others added, resulting in variant readings and revisions.
On the other hand, the Qur'an has been kept intact in its original Arabic form to this day. God has most definitely vowed to protect it from fabrications and interpolation. We are told in the Qur'an that these books have been tampered with. Muslims, therefore, have to cite verses that are consistent with the Qur'an to buttress their arguments. In these books, we have the words of God, the words of their Prophets, the words of historians, and other types of literature that are completely outside the words of God. This is the Muslim position.
