Cheyenne is estimated to be around 5-6 years old. Her body tells a sad story with scars on her face, swollen mammary glands and pressure sores. She is another throw away mama who was kicked to the curb when she wasn’t needed anymore. Cheyenne has probably never been outside of a home or even a room. She’s been though a lot and has a lot of changes over the past week but is definitely a warrior. We look forward to watching her transition into the confidence that we know she will gain!

While she is very shy and timid she definitely loves affection. If you stop petting her, she will politely rest her chin on your lap. Cheyenne doesn’t seem to shy away from new people which is definitely a positive sign. She does seem to perk up around other dogs and they definitely help her to go on walks. We need to further test her with other dogs as it would need to be the right match for her. She’s low energy right now but we definitely don’t think she would like a live with another playful dog.

She went to the vet last week and is being recommended for surgery to remove two of her mammary glands. We cannot schedule this until we get her in a home. She’s currently in a boarding kennel. We pay for everything needed.

Announcing one of our biggest adoption specials of the year!

This weekend, we're hosting our annual Memorial Day Weekend Adoption Event with $30 adoptions from Friday, May 27th - Monday, May 30th at the KC Campus for Animal Care, Zona Rosa Adoption Center, and our Petco Adoption Center on 95th in Overland Park (cats only). Pets in foster homes are on special as well!

All dogs 30 pounds or more and adult cats qualify for the $30 pricing. We are still at crisis capacity, taking in 40-50 new pets a day, which means we have hundreds of amazing dogs and cats hoping to meet you this weekend.

It’s been over 1,100 days since Tortellini landed himself in the shelter back in the summer of 2019. That’s over 3 years!!!! We are pretty certain it’s even longer but that is just what our records show. Sadly, he thinks this is normal life. We assure you Tort, this is not normal and this is not all that’s in store for you. We WILL NOT QUIT until we find you a stable, loving home.

Here’s a little about Tort
✅ 5 years young
✅ Loyal
✅ Adventurous
✅ Walks amazing on leash
✅ Knows basic commands
✅ Crate trained
✅ Food motivated
✅ Travels well in the car
✅ Likes butt scratches but only when you know him really well 😂😂

When you decide to foster Tort, we will supply everything you need. We take care of food, supplies, vetting, etc. We stand behind our dogs and provide support and resources needed to be successful in a home. We only want to see him thriving and loving life!

He might be able to live with another dog but he needs to be able to decompress separately from living with another dog right away. He needs to build a relationship with his people first before blending with another dog. He would do best with no kids or older teens as he has no history of living with children.

With warmer temperatures moving into the area this week, KC Pet Project’s Animal Services Division would like to issue the following tips to keep your pets safe.

Along with these tips, please make sure to keep your pets safe in case they become lost:
• Have a collar and identification tag on your pet at all times, and if they are microchipped, make sure your information is up-to-date.
• If your pet becomes lost, please come to the shelter to see if your pet is there. For information on Lost and Found pet resources, visit our website.
