For many junior enlisted, entering the military is the first time they've been financially independent, and as we all know, it's easy to make mistakes without proper advice. We've teamed up with ROGER Bank to provide five tips to newly enlisted military members to ensure they remain financially stable.
1. Utilize the chow hall or DFAC as much as possible. A portion of your pay is automatically deducted to utilize those facilities.

2. Be wary of on-base vendors, it's easy to get sucked into all of the items they may be selling, but it's essential to prioritize your purchases based on needs, not wants.

3. Avoid overpriced souvenirs when on deployment or shopping off base. We understand you want to make the memory of your deployment or travels, but please do so carefully.

4. Minimize your off-post leisure spending. While enjoying your weekend is essential, avoid expensive activities, especially if you're of legal age for alcohol consumption.

5. Consult your leadership for guidance before making large purchases, such as a new vehicle.

We're thrilled to introduce Brandt McCartney founder and chief of vulnerability officer at Mission 38. Their goal is to change the stigma surrounding veterans asking for help to deal with the challenges many face after leaving the military and provide them with the tools they need to overcome them. We couldn't be more excited to have him as a guest speaker at MCON and have the opportunity to connect with veterans who are attending our event. If you've followed military conflict for any amount of time, Sebastian Junger is a name you're probably familiar with. Books like "War" followed the 173rd Airborne through a tour in the Korengal Valley of Afghanistan, which was later turned into the movie "Restrepo." Sebastian's journalistic approach to war and conflict has taken him around the world to see combat's effects on humans, and we're lucky to have him join us as a guest speaker at MCON 2023.

When asked what veterans miss the most about the military, the most common answer is "the people."

At MCON we aim to bring veterans from all branches together to reconnect with their tribe through various events. We will be hosting everything from looking at the newest gear in the military and civilian world to listening to dozens of guest speakers, including Sebastian Junger, Nate Boyer, and Erik Bartell, to name a few. We'll also have physical challenges like an obstacle course, a bow-hunting challenge, and an MMA work out. If you want to relax and enjoy the company of other veterans, we'll have a spa hosted by Bravo Sierra and tons of vendors offering all kinds of food and drink. We'll have an entire section dedicated to physical and mental health awareness if you're interested in nutrition, psychedelic therapies, or supplements to boost brain power, and physical performance.
