ब्रिटिश नेशनलिटी एक्ट 1948 के तहत सभी भारतीय नागरिक ब्रिटिश सिटीजन है अर्थात आदिवासी को छोड़ कर जो भी विश्व के भिन्न भिन्न प्रदेश से केन्द्रित हुए लोग है जिसे भारतीय कहते है सभी ब्रिटिश नागरिक है "British Subject" है । इतना ही नही केनेडा, ऑस्ट्रेलिया, न्यूजीलैंड, नयु फॉउंडलैंड, पाकिस्तान, दक्षिण रोडेशिया और सीलोन के नागरिक भी ब्रिटिश नागरिक (British Subject) है । यह बातें ब्रिटिश नेशनलिटी एक्ट 1948 के Part-I के सेक्शन 1 से 3 में दर्ज है ।

PART I.
BRITISH NATIONALITY.
Every person who under this Act is a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies or who under any enactment for the time being in force in any country mentioned in subsection (3) of this section is a citizen of that country shall by virtue of that citizenship have the status of a British subject.
(2) Any person having the status aforesaid may be known either as a British subject or as a Commonwealth citizen ; and accordingly in this Act and in any other enactment or instrument whatever, whether passed, or made before or after the commencement of this Act, the expression and the expression "Commonwealth citizen" shall have the same meaning.'
(3) The following are the countries hereinbefore referred to, that is to say, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Union of South Africa, Newfoundland, India, Pakistan, Southern Rhodesia and Ceylon.
