...it is not just Nikole Hannah-Jones or Kathleen McElroy (Texas AM journalism hiring debacle) or former Harvard president Geraldine Gray. We all have our stories and in 2019 Dr. Detra Johnson was brave enough to tell her story in our documentary!

For many of the participants, it was their first time relaying their working while Black experience. We see what is currently going with recent events but know this is nothing new and felt an imperative to document what many are attempting to erase!

We are living in a mass disabling event.

●Everything is fine.

●This numbers are much higher

●It is not just the "flu".

●Also, you shouldn't expect to get the flu every year.

●Each time you get covid you'are damaging organs and/or greatly reducing the effectiveness of your immune system.

●Evidence has shown that there is some correlation of "mild" cases actually doing the most harm.

●Covid can trigger diseases that are dormant and/or usually not acquired until much later in life.

“Although Ms. Edwards filed complaints and reported the behavior to all appropriate parties, Dos Toros management met the plaintiff with dismissive responses and did not attempt to stop the verbal abuse. In fact, supervisors actually defended one of the employees who called Ms. Edwards the “n-word,” claiming this racial epithet was merely “slang.”

A Black female employee reports being repeatedly called the 'n-word' by colleagues, including supervisors, while on the clock at the popular New York food chain.

“In the short documentary film, “Black in the Newsroom,” being screened at 6:30 p.m. tonight at San Diego State University, the filmmaker Collette Watson focuses on the experiences of Elizabeth Montgomery, a former reporter for The Arizona Republic, and the abysmal underpayment and systemic racism she experienced, ultimately pushing her out of the industry altogether. I fully understand.”

Since I’m still in the industry, I chose to keep looking for stories that would more fully reflect the places where I was living.

Many organizations simply refuse to begin at the beginning with a full-throated acknowledgement of America’s racism, not for the purposes of indictment, but instead to serve as a healthy starting point for discussions around retooling our “design” for long term success. And yes, to make matters worse, those who initiate such conversations are too often painted as divisive or difficult.

The first step of solving any complex problem is first naming the problem. Arguably, one reason why our workplaces have made so little antiracism progress is that we lack basic agreement on the fact that racism has long been been a defining element of the American story.

Our documentary has first hand commentary from the Black workers interviewed who relayed their candid thoughts around DEI!

“Chief diversity officers (CDOs) are set up to fail in many companies. These talented DEI professionals often experience tremendous disappointment and depart with really negative feelings. An alarming number of corporate CDOs stay less than two years. Given how essential DEI is to the success of today’s businesses, CEOs really need CDOs to stay and succeed…”

McIntosh, 35, said that when she told her boss she had more responsibilities and was held to higher standards than a white female counterpart, her boss told her that she should focus on being a better "culture fit" and that she should "humble" herself.

Tired of racism and microaggressions, some Black women in corporate America are breaking into entrepreneurship so they can be their own boss.
