▪️BLESSING OKAGBARE BANNED FOR 10 YEARS.

Nigeria’s 2008 long jump silver medalist, Blessing Okagbare has been banned for 10 years for doping. The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) made the announcement on Friday.

It will be recalled that the 33-year-old who is also a Sprinter, was expelled from the Tokyo Olympics last year before the women’s 100m semi-finals after testing positive for human growth hormone at an out-of-competition test in Slovakia on July 19. “The Disciplinary Tribunal has banned Nigerian sprinter Blessing Okagbare for a total of 10 years,” read an AIU statement.

Guard Yourselves from 'Yahoo'

Guard yourself, please I say guard yourself this year. . .guard yourself from religion. okay. . .No. . .that is not the best way to say it. Delete what you just read.

What I mean is, guard yourself, guard yourself from religious men and women. . .hmmmm. . .No! That is not equally the right way to put it.

Let me try again. . .

This year, guard yourself from people using religion as a tool to exploit and manipulate you. . .Yes, this is a better way to say it.

I have always told you all, religion is not the problem, and as hard as anyone may try to remove religion from this world, it won't work because man is a religious being. . . religion will always be part and parcel of man.

Where the problem lies is that since religion is very powerful. . .if it finds itself in the hands of wrong people, the result you will get could be very disastrous.

So dear friends, guard yourselves from those using God's name to manipulate people.

In this month of January,

If anyone tells you that you must submit your entire January salary to their ministries because according to them, it is what God orders. . .just know the person is a thief, a manipulator, a scammer, and a 'yahoo' minister.

No doubt, some group of people could gather together and agree to give up their January salary for whatever cause. . . I don't have issues with that provided it is their freewill they are exercising.

But the moment the name of God is used and this group of people are told that it is God himself that ordered for their January salary to be submitted and that God's blessings are tied to their obedience to that order. . .that is where we must not keep quiet but call it what it is: manipulation.

This year, repeat this prayer to yourself: Nobody will be able to manipulate me.

New Year Prophecies

Let us take a look at some of the prophecies that will be hitting you soon.

Prophecy number one: "None of you will die in 2022. 2022 will not see your end."

Friends, whether you will die or you will not die is not an element of prophecy. “You will not die” is at best a mere wish. Even the person prophesying to you does not know when he or she will die.

If 2022 will not see your end, a particular year certainly will. And if you did not die in 2022, it is not a sign that you are the most blessed or the holiest or the one that God loves most. Instead, it simply means that your time has not come.

I did lose an archbishop last year, a very influential figure as far as Catholicism in Malawi is concerned. He died in a way that no one, including himself, expected it. All the projects he started are still there.

In the Pentecostal world this year, Prophet TB Joshua died. I know many people from Africa and all over the world who don’t mind spending all they have so as to come to Nigeria and hear a prophecy from him of what their lives will be like before the new year begins, but the ‘great’ prophet died without knowing that this year will be his last.

Let me digress a little.

Following Christian theology, it is not so much a good prayer to pray for someone not to die because if we are to look at it, it is through death that one can even go to heaven.

But I digressed. . .

Apart from the fact that literally such a prayer has never been answered, a prayer that “you will not die” in the sense in which people mean it today is basically o***m. O***m is a highly addictive narcotic drug people take to make themselves feel good and forget reality. The unfortunate thing for o***m takers is that the drug does not take away the reality they are running away from and sooner or later, the person faces that which he or she was running away from.

It is not also best to tell someone that he or she will die, but telling someone that he or she will die is far better than telling the person that he or she will not die. While the former is true, the latter is false.

Now let me put this clearer,

The reason why any prophecy and prayer that says you won’t die will always attract your loud “Amen” and excitement is because man, naturally, is afraid of the unknown; and death is one mystery that man is yet to decipher. So man’s life and living is basically the denial of death. This fact is psychologically proven. And if you have free time, try and read the Pulitzer award-winning book by Ernest Becker titled: The Denial of Death. You might even find a free PDF version online to download. I read that book in 2006, read it again this year.

Now, to biblical understanding. . .

All those that Jesus raised from the dead, still died. Lazarus is not here with us. The little girl in Mark 5:41 he raised from the dead by saying “Tabitha cumi”, she still died.

Raising anyone from the dead was not Jesus’ greatest miracle. Because for a fact, he raised people from the dead to make us know that he has power over death. But if he was not comfortable with people dying, he would have been more proactive than reactive. By this I mean, he would have stopped what makes people die than just selectively reacting after someone had died. But that was not his mission. His mission was far bigger than physical death. Even he too died at the age of 33. By this, living up to 100 years of age is not necessarily a sign of being blessed. Even pagans can live long.

So, when the bible said “you will not die,” it should be understood in the same context as Jesus’ statement to the Samaria woman at Jacob’s well in John 4 where he told the woman that he will give her water that will make her never to thirst again. Christ was not talking of physical water, and “you will not die” should not be understood as physical death. Because in truth, you will die and death awaits all of us.
