GO Biochar with John Webster
Go Biochar with John Webster
Motivated by the 2019 youth climate strikes, John founded GO Biochar to influence Utah’s charge to regenerative resilience through biochar. Biochar is the ancient practice of converting waste into a semi-permanent soil enhancer that holds carbon, boosts food security, increases soil biodiversity, and prevents desertification of Utah soils.
John and the GO Biochar team are actively working with Utah farmers, municipalities, organizations, lawmakers, and individuals focusing on soil health and regenerative waste management through the use of biochar. Seeking to improve crop yields, add environmental resilience, and constantly promote carbon sequestration strategies, GO Biochar strives to completes carbon cascades by turning organic waste streams into biochar. The regenerative practice of making products from locally available organic matter lowers the embodied carbon footprint, and local biochar is a key component in environmental resilience.
John is a participating member of the International Biochar Initiative. Since completing the Biochar Training for Environmental Sustainability and Economic Development certification, John has been on the Advisory Board for the [Park City Thriving Earth Exchange Project | https://thrivingearthexchange.org/project/parkcity-ut/], where he evaluates the effectiveness of biochar for carbon sequestration, soil productivity, water retention, and wildfire risk reduction.
