I’m so slack at posting 🤦🏼‍♀️ we are still going strong, building, cooking, creating, working, learning and having fun.
Each day looks different, each day we learn more and each day we have fun.

I’ve been a little bit quiet due to having surgery that set me back a little but I thought I’d share what both children have started doing weekly.

They go to their nans and do a cooking class. Zayden has picked dishes he would like to learn and occasionally we will do a dish from a country of his choice and then learn a bit about them.
Choc ripple cake was something he had at Christmas and loved and lolly log cake is a dessert from New Zealand.

A fun fact that Zayden didn’t want to write down was that New Zealand has less people than Japan does vending machines! That’s just crazy to me 🤣

Great day to end our first week! We also did some maths book work and did our cooking meal plan for this term! 💖

What an effort! We spent most of the day out today so decided to do our work this afternoon.

Started with a little maths test so I can track his progress. I then asked him to do one page out of his grammar and vocabulary page, he asked if he could do more and I said sure.
He did 9 and a half pages! This included reading all instructions ect himself too.
We had a little bit of telling the time work planned for after dinner but I think he earned the rest of the night off 🤣

Today our first day of grade one started, this will be our first full year of homeschooling and I can’t wait to see what the year brings.
Both kids have had a fabulous day.
We did paintings, self portraits (we will do these start and end of year to see what’s changed), drawings, building and some writing (this is again to track progress over the year)

Whilst we don’t officially start until tomorrow, today Zayden had his very first drama class.
We went in to it as a trial but he absolutely loved it and had decided he’d like to do the entire term.
This is a group of about 8-10 kids his age so a great opportunity to make connections all whilst having fun! 🥰

Welcome to our homeschooling journey!
Last year I made the decision to homeschool Zayden for a few different factors but I have since discovered just how wonderful it is and have decided to homeschool both kids going forward.
Zayden has really flourished and it’s so good to no longer see him worried about the stress of school.
We have decided to take on an unschooling approach.
What is that you may ask?
It’s different to traditional schooling. We won’t be doing sheet and book work daily, we won’t do homework or tests ect.
We will learn through day to day life, exploring, cooking, watching documentaries, arts and craft, shopping, lots of outings, board games, reading, writing notes ect.
No pressure learning.
We will of course do some sheet work but it won’t be a daily thing.
Fun fact, the home schooling association officer we had come to approve us, has a 13 and 14 year old children and only last year did they do their first sheet work!
There is so many ways to learn simply by living day to day life.
Answering the million and one questions your children might have and by learning in ways they are passionate about.
One thing I know people get concerned about is socialisation. I promise, they get it.
We have homeschool meets every Friday, Zayden is starting drama classes this year, he is on the wait list for a soccer team, we have found a school that will allow him to do swimming carnivals and cross country, he still catches up with friends from school and he has numerous appointments for his health where he does lots of chatting to nurses and doctors.
Every time they go out in public, they chew everybody’s ear off that’s willing to listen and whenever we go to a park, they fit right in and have no issue making new friends.
I have created this page to post photos, keep track of our schooling, let Zayden make posts (his request) and so those that don’t want to follow our journey over on my normal page don’t get driven nuts 😅
Thank you so much for following along 💖
