Morgan's Kitchen I'm a professional baker, food and photography lover who tests and develops recipes. I love beautifu I love to bake! It’s both science and art.

Being a bit of a science geek, I like the precision behind baking. The system of baking can only work if the function of all of its parts are doing their job. Spending hours in the kitchen trying something new and watching it come together is exciting. There are many steps that can make the recipe flop, even if you’re following another baker’s recipe. Decorating is another area that I’m tackling.

Learning the tools and techniques gives a baker so much more freedom to create. I grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana eating great Southern food. Sugar and fat…you can’t beat it. I learned a lot about cooking from my Mom and Grandmothers. Each had something a little different to teach me…Mom, amazing cinnamon toast and pot roast; Nana, buttermilk biscuits; Mamaw, fried chicken and chocolate fudge. So many great recipes and great memories! I created Morgan’s Kitchen to share my experiences, both failures and successes, with you. I started this journey testing other baker’s recipes, some you will see in the Recipe Index. They are talented bakers with amazing content so please visit their blogs. Most of what I will be posting now are recipes I have developed. My goal is to offer a tasty recipe with beautiful photography. Test recipes that catch my eye will be posted on my Instagram page. I am licensed in the state of Georgia as a Cottage Food business and have a managerial level food safety certification from ServSafe.

These photos are from a cake fail I haven't posted yet, as I wanted to make it work first. However, the Wookie cookie came out pretty well for my first try drawing with royal icing.

It’s a stormy day on the east coast. Perfect time to make dog treats!

Sunday mornings are for Zu. He gets “junk food”, what I call regular dog food as he eats raw. We play Frisbee, ball, chase then head out for a drive to Starbucks to get a puppucino. A great way to end a busy week and start a new one.

Try my Sweet Potato, Carrot & Oat Dog Treats. Use a fine grater to easily mix in the carrots. I used to boil the sweet potatoes but now steam them. I leave the skins on the carrots and add them in raw. You can wash the tops of the treats in egg before they go into the oven. Today, I left them plain.

At the end of the baking cycle, I turn off the oven and leave them in for another 30-45 minutes to dry out. Zu loves the crunch! Just make sure they don’t burn.

I hope you all had a great day! Ending mine with pasta and meatballs. You don’t have to start from scratch.

•Cook Ziti (or other pasta), according to instructions.
•Heat pre-made pasta sauce in a pot with cooked meatballs, found in the freezer section of the grocery store, for 20 minutes.
•Place cooked pasta in a baking dish and toss with a little heated sauce.
•Pour the rest of meatballs and sauce over the top of the pasta.
•Sprinkle with cheese of choice (I had Swiss on hand) and any extra herbs you like.
•Bake for 12 minutes then broil top to toast up the melted cheese.

I photographed this amazing Cheesy Root Vegetable Gratin on location at the Big Green Egg Culinary Center for the latest issue of Nourish and Flourish Publication on stands now! I was behind the actual camera but there was a team of 5 other ladies cooking, styling and shooting video. It was an incredible day and we shot 8 different dishes.

This gratin may look complicated but it’s really easy to layer the pan to create a beautiful dish for your holiday dinner. Ours was cooked on the Big Green Egg but you can pop it in the oven as well.
