In an effort to raise Alzheimer's awareness, and to generate donations for research, I am again participating in The Longest Day. Yes, The Longest Day is actually June 20, this year. But since I goofed and requested off on June 21, that will be MY longest day. And if there's one thing I do well, it's watching movies. A lot of them. So why not celebrate the careers of filmmakers we've lost, and those currently living with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, by watching their performances and works in a Longest Day Movie Marathon format? It seems totally reasonable to me.
Two years ago, I went all out, watching 14 movies over 24 hours. But like last year, I'm going to take it a little easier on myself again, planning a much healthier 11 movies, beginning around 8 am and continuing until the 11th movie ends.
As this is designed to tie-in with my podcast, A Cure for the Common Craig, there is a stipulation. All of the movies will be something that we would possibly cover on the podcast. So, our typical horror, trash, sci-fi and action genre selections, with a few fantasy, mystery, thriller borderline cases. You want the list? Here's the list, with the names of the actors being honored:
1. Violent City (1970) - star, Charles Bronson
2. Fire Down Below (1957) - star, Rita Hayworth
3. Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) - stars, James Doohan & Nichelle Nichols
4. The Bedford Incident (1965) - star, Sidney Poitier
5. Planet of the Apes (1968) - star, Charlton Heston
6. Death Becomes Her (1992) - star, Bruce Willis
7. The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) - star, Rip Torn
8. The Three Faces of Eve (1957) - star, Joanne Woodward
9. Black Heat (1976) - star, Timothy Brown
10. Curse of the Demon (1957) - star, Dana Andrews
11. Vertigo (1958) - star, James Stewart
Now, I'm not going to do anything crazy, like livestreaming myself watching these movies. But I do plan to check-in on social media at least once per movie, so you can track my progress and make sure that I'm not just sleeping half the day. This is taking place from the comfort of my home. So if you're local, and I know you, I might invite you in. As long as you're quiet during the movies. And you're clean.
Stand up to the darkness of Alzheimer's and make a donation today, to join me in helping the Alzheimer's Association provide their support to all those facing the disease. Thank you!
