The new program pairs local seniors with elementary school students to share the joys of reading and create meaningful connections. Volunteers ages 55 and up will assist with reading and academic support, play board games, help in the classroom, and more!
Each school will have different needs, which will be assigned by the specific principal. The commitment is flexible, and will allow seniors to spend as much, or as little, time as they would like volunteering.

Officer Josh Barnett was named the 2023 Hilliard Optimist Club Officer of the Year! Congratulations!
Officer Barnett has served the community in a variety of roles since he was hired in 2007. He is currently the school resource officer at Heritage Middle School and served in the same role at Hilliard Bradley High School. He's also been a patrol officer, member of the division's bicycle unit, and crisis intervention officer.
He recently retired from the Air National Guard after 21 years of service and was deployed several times.
Officer Barnett has a passion working with kids (he's a total goofball at Safety Town!) and was recently recognized for successfully performing the Heimlich maneuver on a child at school. We're grateful to have him as a member of HPD.

Hilliard Davidson National Art Honor Society members worked with Columbus Humane to create “art advertisements” for animals ready to find their forever homes.
The ultimate goal of this art service project is to bring awareness to the Hilliard community of adoptable animals who are waiting in the nearby shelter. Anyone inspired by these artworks is encouraged to visit Columbus Humane at 3015 Scioto Darby Executive Court in Hilliard.
The students' creations are currently on display at the Hilliard Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library.
Several students were honored at the Rotary Club of Hilliard's January Student of the Month luncheon.
The focus this month was students who have made significant contributions to their school and their community through their work in the Arts. Honorees included Isabella De La Cerda from Hilliard Bradley High School, Kay Roberts from Hilliard Davidson High School, and Nathan Laemmle from Hilliard Darby High School.
Each of these students shared impressive examples of how talented they are and the ways in which they enrich our community through their artistic pursuits. Congratulations to all!
