Plug Research Records The Music! Based in Los Angeles, CA, Plug Research Music was founded in 1994 as a way to release 12” singles.

The label quickly grew away from being a single driven label and became home to an impressive collection of musicians that were pushing the boundaries of sound. Some of the early releases included classic releases by Dntel, Daedelus, the debut release for Flying Lotus, Mia Doi Todd and Milosh to name a few. Eighteen years later, the label is still going strong with a roster consisting of establish

ed artists like Quadron, Bilal (who garnered the label it's first Grammy nomination), Exile, Robin Hannibal, and Boom Clap Bachelors. The label also has a slew of new artists like Sonnymoon, Lee Bannon, Elephant & Castle, Astrobal, Szjerdene and Hawthorne Headhunters who will continue the legacy of the label for years to come.

This Friday, releases his cover of Depeche Mode’s, Shake the Disease on .

Adult Karate:
Depeche Mode has consistently been one of the most important bands in my life. I was kind of a gloomy kid and their brand of catchy yet dark new wave spoke to me at a very young age. I remember singing along to Shake The Disease when I was 8 years old. I was also transfixed by the album cover for the “Catching Up With Depeche Mode” singles compilation; Martin Gore was shirtless and the lighting makes it look like he has the breast of a woman. I had no idea what was going on but that’s who Depeche Mode were for me. They forced me to think about so many things that I wouldn’t have otherwise; things about god and s*x and addiction…things that are probably too much for an 8 year old but we can’t change the past. For many years I’ve wanted to cover this song and I always imagined a piano being the main instrument. So I started with piano and it all just started coming together after that. Through the magic of the internet I was able to hire a violin & cello duo in the UK to record the string parts. I wanted my version to be dark, intimate and cinematic, building up from a small beginning into a big ending. My hope is that fans of Depeche Mode will see my version as an act of reverence and love. Shake The Disease is a song that feels as if it’s a part of my DNA. I feel that sound, that beautiful hopelessness pulsing through my veins. It’s a bit of a departure from the original version but I hope I was able to translate their dark magic into something that feels personal. Because we’re all persons, ya turkey. 🖤
