Adopt an older dog they said. Older dogs will love you fiercely and not take you for granted they said. And they were right.
"If a puppy comes in, they're adopted within a month -- sometimes within a week," Karla Crane, a dog trainer at 5A's Animal Shelter said. "Older dogs that come in ... they're the ones that have to stay here until we find a family."
Congratulations Wiggles!

A rescue dog named Wiggles has been adopted after a decade in a shelter https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/07/us/dog-rescue-shelter-illinois-trnd/index.html

Wiggles, a rescue dog, had food, a backyard and plenty of laps to sit on. But for 11 years, she was missing one thing -- a family. That changed this week when Wiggles, a 14-year-old pit bull mix, was finally adopted after a decade at an Illinois shelter.

“No one is embarrassed to call 911 for a fire or an emergency. No one should be embarrassed to call 988 for a mental health emergency."

When the months-long process is completed, U.S. residents will be able to call 988 for help in a mental health emergency.

Once our students graduate high school, we continue with them onto phase two of HIGHER Up Texas. Our goal is to pipeline them into careers that are satisfying and sustainable in fields where we need educated and ready workers. This is how you break a poverty cycle!

Tragic and beautiful.

Earlier this week, we received this letter from the Leslie and Daniel Weir. These wonderful people, under the most tragic circumstances, thought of how they could do something good in honor of their loved one even through the burden of grief.

On behalf of our organization and all of our team members, we want to thank them for the generous donation in Jon Michael’s honor.

To the Nash and Weir families - we are so sorry for your loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

The Friends of Marshall Animals are so very grateful to your family for thinking of our organization, and more importantly, the animals that we strive daily to save. Your generosity will go a long way to saving the lives of countless animals, and will make a tremendous difference, in our efforts to see a new low kill shelter built in Marshall.

Your tribute is a beautiful way to honor the memory of a special young man, whose life ended far too soon.

Please share your nonprofit news here. This page is a free resource so that we can share the good work of National organizations regardless of advertising budget. Most of us only hear about orgs that either pay for ads, we already follow, or happen to be in the news. There are so many great groups out there helping to make the world a better place! Please share your great news and events either through messenger or by posting (and then we’ll share the post). Thank you!

“I worked all my life. I never thought I’d be in poverty.

I have about 10 medications I’m on because of my back injury. When I run out, I wonder if I’m going to have enough money to just pay for those, let alone for food.

Some of what I get [at the pantry] I can’t buy; I get a lot of food that I really need that I wouldn’t be able to afford. Without the food bank and the pantry, I’d be going hungry.”

— Brenda, participant at Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana (our sister food bank through Feeding America)

Amazing work Kayla. Her work and commitment helped to change Taft Texas Animal Control euthanization rate from 100% to 0. We would love to know her secrets though we have a few guesses... not giving up, positive attitude, making the shelter more conducive for adoption, marketing, and finding more donor dollars are all very important in making major change at the shelter level. Great job Taft and Kayla!

Kayla Denney has devoted her career to saving every dog’s life that she can, and for that she's being awarded the 2019 National ‘Unsung Hero
