ENRICH, EXPAND, EDUCATE; Choose a title, share your story, listen to the conversation, connect with a stranger, change perceptions

While we haven't been able to meet in person to share our stories like we have at our amazing live Story Slam events and storytelling workshops (see photos below), WE CAN STILL SHARE OUR STORIES!

We invite you to join our online Life Stories event inspired by the human library concept developed in Denmark.

It's all about 'unjudging' someone, feeling heard, paying deep attention to others so you can expand your perception and learn more about yourself and the world through the art of storytelling and sharing in a safe and nurturing space.

Free or by $10 donation to Mums 4 Refugees. More details in link below:

Happy International Women's Day!

The theme for 2021 is: “Choose to Challenge”

This year, everyone is invited to strike a pose; take an image of yourself with your hand held high to show your commitment to challenge inequality, call out bias, question stereotypes, and help forge an inclusive world. Share your image on social media using hashtags and to further encourage people to get involved.

A challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change.

Hello there!

We wanted to wish you all a happy holiday, Christmas, Chanukah, or end of year celebration however you choose to spend it.

As the festive season lands upon us we wanted to acknowledge it can be totally thrilling and exciting to have some holiday time, but it can also be lonely and overwhelming. It's really important that you make time to retreat, connect, recharge, slow down or socialise more - to be in tune with what you need.

We love this self care image, it's a nice visual way to see where you are and what you need.

We have decided to take some down time and are excited to relaunch our amazing podcast and video series in early 2021, with TWO bonus episodes.

See you on the other side!
xx

After the year that’s been, a hopeful end to 2020 🙏🏾🙏👊💃🏼

・・・
For the first time in history, we have a woman of color as our Vice President. I am currently crying so I don’t have any other words besides that. We did it. We fu***ng did it. We can both rejoice and take a giant deep sigh of relief over what has happened the last 4 years. 🤍congrats &

This election has shown us that we have SO MUCH work to do, but today - we celebrate.

Book #13, the great Joanne Fedler and The Creativity Couch special guest, does it again.
Bravo! 👍👊💃🏼

It is SIX DAYS until my new book, Unbecoming is thrust upon the unsuspecting public, ie all of you and the first title of mine and Karen McDermott's new imprint, Lusaris.
19 years ago, on that date, I arrived in Sydney, a hot mess, laden with two small children, a terrified, anxious immigrant.
Unbecoming is my 13th book, which feels like way too many words for any one person, but you should know - I have worked harder on this book than on any of my others. It is the most hard-won of all of my writing - I had to break and remake myself, lose people I love, wean myself off my children so they can fly into their own lives without too much ancestral baggage, and rewrite the plot three times to keep up with the quantum nature of unfolding events around us.
Lana Kanareck Hirschowitz, just finished it in anticipation of an interview, and wrote to me: 'your readers are recipients of the greatest gift - feeling heard and understood... (it's) the best account of letting go of (our children) I can remember.... I felt like we were on the same page, on the same sentence, fixated on the same word.' So that gives me hope that you'll love it. I mean, my wish is that you'll see your life represented honestly in these pages (whether you have kids or not - this book is for all women in their midlives).
Given Covidnall, launching is happening next Thursday 22 October at the wonderful bookshop Gertrude and Alice where I'll be chatting to Miriam Hechtman about the utter joys of menopause, the paradox of the empty nest, how grief becomes your most loyal companion and what it’s like to be a termagant (a quarrelsome, irascible, curmudgeonly shrewish woman – at last!) and other topics I write about in Unbecoming.
In-house seats are sold out, but there are plenty of ONLINE places.
We've timed it at 8pm in Sydney so that if you're in South Africa, it is 11am, to coincide perfectly with your mid-morning coffee break.
Proceeds will go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (so how good is that?) You can grab a ticket here https://www.eventbrite.com/.../an-evening-with-joanne...
If you have a podcast or would like to interview me, just PM me or contact my publicist Candice Meisels [email protected]
If you're in Sydney or the surrounds (an hour or two) and would like to organize a private 'launch' in your home for up to 10 friends, please email me [email protected] and we can organize that too.

"The letters in the word listen are the exact same letters in the word silent..."

A little sneak peak with the stupendous Michele Susan Brown Author narrating her memoir, "This Kind of Silence. How Losing My Hearing Taught Me to Listen". It's a truly inspirational story about gratitude for the small blessings in life, learning to listen again, and the quiet joys of stillness amidst the noise.

We were honoured that Michele joined our podcast conversation from America, talking about how to navigate writing a memoir especially if the people critical to the story are still alive. We delve deep into many issues and Michele provides insight with considered advice and much more.

The Creativity Couch podcast and video series Part 2, will be out soon.

Amazing podcast by Jess Van Den, founder of Create & Thrive and Epheriell. She was also a special guest on The Creativity Couch, where we also had an excellent conversation.

Jess is always full of so much good practical advice for makers and creatives, and this special podcast is so valuable during these challenging times.

Since this is on everyone’s mind, I wanted to discuss the potential consequences of COVID-19 on our businesses.

Long story short: no-one really knows what the long-term consequences will be, but there are things we can do to better ride out this period of uncertainty.

I also want to talk about ways that we are, in fact, in a great position to deal with this pandemic compared to a lot of people with casual work, gig work, contract work, or those working for companies that might have to shut down.

I do understand that you might be in both of these camps – and if so, there’s never been a better time to devote your time and energy to growing your own product-based online business.

We’ve been sharing our stories in my membership community, the Thriver Circle, and many of the points I’m raising in this video/podcast have come up there.

I address challenges like how to talk about your biz right now, coping with sickness/time off, shipping disruptions, economic loss, as well as opportunities and some of the ways that we self-employed makers are already in a good position to cope with the challenges ahead of us all.
