Pluto’s Last Days in Capricorn & today’s Full Moon in Ta**us🌕
Today’s full moon is the last full moon we’ll experience while Pluto is in Capricorn; the last nail in the coffin so to speak. Pluto enters Aquarius on November 19th for good this time (well, at least for the next 20 years). We are firmly and chaotically—paradoxically, in an interregnum: midway through the birth canal, leaving where we came from, and having no clear idea where we’re heading, but there’s no going back. We need to squirm, shimmy, and claw our way out and forward into the unknown. I wrote a piece about Pluto’s last days in Capricorn for my Astrology 101 series in Chronogram. It’s mostly for people who are new to astro or casual aficionados (link-in- bio “Astro 101”)
Today’s full moon is conjoined with Uranus (the Great Awakener/Disruptor) and fixed star Algol. In Arabic, Algol means “demon’s head” or “ghoul,” and is deeply configured to the myth of Medusa. This turns what would otherwise be a soothing, stable, and very comfortable lunation (the moon is exalted in Ta**us), into something much more tumultuous. It moves us along the birth canal like a giant contraction that gets us unstuck. Uranus symbolizes breaks with the status quo, and Algol symbolizes great feats of destruction/creation (as well as the lopping off of heads). I would guess that the very things that are causing us to “lose our heads,” will give us the energy to move closer to the thresholds of our comfort zones. We can’t chill out in the birth canal forever and we can’t crawl back into the womb.
There are a lot of dysregulated nervous systems out there. Dysregulation is a precursor to change. I’m not advocating for merely coping with dysregulation, but for understanding it. Stabilize as needed, but not with eternal comfort being the goal. There’s no growth or movement there, and whatever ceases to move, stagnates and rots. Moments of stability + fortitude need to be used for risk-taking, challenging, and confronting. Real comfort and stability come from unwinding ourselves from old patterns of fearing change.
