Ok so it’s not the best news. I wanted to love this book so much. It just seemed like the perfect…. you know BEACH READ! But if I’m honest I forced myself to finish it which I’m really bad about.

People say don’t finish books you aren’t enjoying but I have a fierce obligation to finish books I start. I think I should have known though because I read People you meet on Vacation by the same author and also did not enjoy it. There is a lot of “flirty” arguing by the main characters in both books and it’s so over the top I just can’t enjoy it.

Sigh. Anyway, I’d give this one a skip if I were you and you haven’t yet. I feel guilty saying it because I want to support the author but I think her books are super popular and she’s probably doing fine?! And maybe you would enjoy the book?! Just my honest feelings.

Also, who want to bet I’ll read another one of her books?!

We are grateful for good sleep over here and pillows are a huge part of that! They are a great partner of podcast and you’d be missing out if we didn’t share the goodness with you here in instagram as well!

If you have been searching for a solid pillow like I did for years do not stop your search until you try Lagoon. I seriously tried so many pillows before finding Lagoon and nothing compares.

You fill out a 2 min quiz and they will set you up with the pillow that is best suited for your needs. One of the coolest things they do is they send you all the filling so you can fill it up as much or as little as you like!

Nothing will question your sanity like road trippin with a bunch of kids.

Our youngest, Sandy talked nonstop for the 4.5 hour drive home from Isle of Palms. Honestly I don’t know how he didn’t run out of words or things to talk about. 🤯🤯🤯

Glenn and I actually recorded a podcast about road tripping with kids back in the day if you want to listen! Linked in the profile and stories! It’s episode 28 of Why is Everyone Yelling? Pod set!

Because I’m always trying to figure it all out even though I know I’ll never actually figure it all out.

If you listen to my podcasts at all you’ve probably heard me talk about my skepticism and wanting to believe all at the same time.

Giving this book a go. I’ve been reading about Timothy since his passing and watched some clips of him speaking and an intrigued. I’m not starting it thinking I’ll find an answer but always interested in insight.

Do you have a book you recommend around faith/God? I’ve read a lot but am always up for recommendations.

I did also just finish The Guncle and am deciding what beach read to dive into for our beach trip this coming week. I have several options!! Stay tuned!

I thought it would be fun to share my summer reading adventures on this account!

When I had surgery a few weeks ago my neighbor brought over three super fun reads and I’m just about to finish the last one!

Here are the goodies she brought me:

1. Every Summer After

2. Nora Goes off Script

3. The Guncle

All super cute and if I had to pick just one that you’ll fly through I’ll go with “Nora Goes off Script.”

On the the next!

What is your light summer read right now?

Laura Tremaine is on podcast this week!

I have been following her work for quite awhile on instagram and I have always thought that she has really relatable, honest and encouraging things to say. She has a new book out called The Life Council, Ten Friends Every Woman Needs. I loved relating this book to my own life and friendships and it really got me thinking about the kind of friend I am and who fills what seats on my own personal council. (TRUST ME there aren't 10 people right now- don't be intimidated by that number - this is more of a long term council thing. :)

Laura is also a podcaster. She has a podcast called Ten Things to Tell You. She loves to read and has her own awesome book club going on this summer called Stephen King Summer.

Laura is also the author of the book called Share Your Stuff, I’ll Go First.

We covered a lot in this episode, including some businessy stuff but the bulk of it was about friendship! I hope that you love it and find something good in it!

THANK YOU LAURA! And friends- don't forget to leave a rating and review on itunes if you enjoy the show and share it with your friends.

One on one breakfast with my Louis! Went to my favorite place with my one kid who will appreciate the goodness of this delicious biscuit.

Reminder to self. Do this more. We were a spicy bunch this morning and connecting with this one as well as separating him from the others was good for all parties.

This morning Louis asked what my fav coffee shop of all time was and I’m still trying to decide. Here in Raleigh my go-tos are , & .

What’s your favorite?! Tag them + the city and state so we can all know where to go if we travel to you!

GIVEAWAY- make it to the end!!!

Hi friends!!! I’m and I host the Why is Everyone Yelling? Podcast!

I wanted to introduce myself in case you are new here.

I live in Raleigh, NC with my four boys and husband. My kids are 4, 6, 8 and 10 and I started this podcast so that I could talk to people and share stories and expert thoughts on motherhood, parenting and this stage of life in general.

I am a lifelong runner, am always reading three books at once and always have music on in the house. I’m obsessed with knowing my neighbors, living in community and leaving the windows and doors open.

I have a free range mentality with parenting and you will usually see my kids shoeless and shirtless while they roam the neighborhood. I think loosening the grip of control can save us a lot of angst in parenting.

Our kids fight like cats and dogs and I get a lot wrong. I don’t know what I’m doing half the time and have realized as my kids get older that I’m simply growing up right along side them.

I created this podcast to provide encouragement and realistic stories and ideas to support you in your parenting and life.

Over the past two years I’ve tried to figure out what exactly I want this podcast to be and it’s been a little hard finding my footing if I’m honest. My other podcast for runners (I’ll Have Another) has been more straightforward- I simply interview pro runners, coaches and entrepreneurs in the industry.

As I grow and evolve, I want this show to resemble a lifestyle podcast with a heavy dose of parenting. I hope I can do that and that you’ll all enjoy it!

- If you are enjoying the show- would you tag 5 friends who you think might also enjoy it?

- Bonus points if you share your favorite episode so far!!

- I’ll pick one person in the comments at random to win a $25 target gift card!!! GO!

PS- I hope this coffee provides me a little zap of energy cause I’m feeling a little bit tired here!!!

Hey do me a favor. Pick 5 friends in your phone right now and give them a text to just say hi and let them know you’re thinking about them. It might make their day and also that connection will fill you up too.

Put that on your to do list and report back in the comments please. That’s your accountability. I wanna see it. I’ll do the same. ❤️

is on the podcast today!!

Shannan Martin is a mother, a wife, and a neighbor living in Indiana. She just wrote a book called Start with Hello (And Other Simple Ways to Live as Neighbors). She is very passionate about that and I am as well so it was really fun to connect with her about that. She is also the author of Falling Free and Ministry of Ordinary Places. She is a phenomenal writer.

In this episode, we talk about what it means to be a neighbor. We also talk about her life and how her views and thoughts have changed and how she has walked through that pretty publicly and what that looked like.

She is a cook at a local nonprofit dedicated to feeding her community. It was so fun to hear about that on this podcast episode!

No screen weekend over here. Less fighting. More creative play. I’m not anti screen. I’m really not but for the love they cause drama for us and it’s just hard to find a balance even if you try try try. This isn’t about screens being bad it’s about wanting my kids to know how to be bored and what to do with those feelings AND also it’s about me not wanting to deal with bad attitudes and fights over who’s turn it is. I don’t have the answer or any magic tricks for amounts of time or blah blah blah but sometimes I just know we need a healthy longer break. There are days when they are on the Xbox for hours so don’t let this fool you. ❤️

I am no expert on this and I know I can do better. Starting with setting expectations ahead of time. The is one of my favorite follows on the topic on how to have a healthy relationship with video games. I highly recommend you checking them out if you are curious!!

From the book “Start with Hello” by .

Shannon is speaking my language… perhaps with more beautiful words than I could string together.

I can’t wait to speak with you on Wednesday for the podcast Shannan!

Friends- what to you long for in a neighbor? Seriously, I want to know. Please please share!

I want a neighbor I feel comfortable enough to pop in unsolicited and just plop down on their couch like it’s everyday business. ❤️

The little boys get lumped into so much big kid stuff that I sometimes forget how tiring kindergarten really is. Like oh yes this was a big day for Marshall too. Louis didn’t have a true kindergartener experience because of covid so I guess we were kind of out of practice! These days are long for this little 5 and 6 year old kids!!!

Do you do some unwind time after school for your younger ones? All of them? Our kids are usually ready to play with friends right after school but this boy is so tired!

I am so excited about this conversation with my friend, Nattie Meador. I know Nattie from way back, she is from the same hometown as me and is one of those friends that I have kept up with since reconnecting on social media!

Nattie is from Bloomington, Indiana (my hometown!) and has moved back there and works as the Associate Director at Indiana University Alumni Association. She is the mom of three.

She recently started her new podcast called A Little Happy. She has such a great story of why they named it that and she shares about that in this episode and I loved that story!

We get honest in this episode about therapy, hard things that we walk through as mothers, friendship, creating community, and being honest and vulnerable with our friends and family.

There is endless value in blocking your work calendar for a couple hours to chaperone the field trip if you can. Admittedly my husband does this more than I do and his work schedule is much more full than mine. Also, he dropped me off at Pilates on the way to said field trip. 🤷‍♀️

29/01/2023

You know that phrase “boys will be boys” that people hate? I get it. I am trying to raise my boys to be kind, respectful, stand up for others kind of people, boys who will clean the house as much as their partner as adults, raise the kids in a 50-50 kind of way if they have kids, support and stand behind women, all the things.

AND I think what I really need to embrace is that boys WILL be boys. I do not understand their constant need for physical play and rough housing. It makes me feel so out of control. There are four of them and they all feed off one another’s energy. It multiples fast. I do wonder sometimes if we had a sister in the mix somewhere how that dynamic might change things even a little bit.

So. If I can embrace that this is their nature and yes boys will be boys I can let go of trying to have a calm house or a house where people aren’t constantly playing so physically. Trying to control it only makes me feel more out of control.

I wouldn’t trade having four boys for anything and I’m certain I’d say the same thing if I had any other combination of kids. I have to lean into who they are and how they express their own energy.

Though I know it’s not politically correct to say. I’m gonna say it. These boys will be boys and ultimately I hope we see that being a positive thing as time marches on.

We can be rowdy, rough and tumble AND all the other good stuff too. ❤️

I started thinking of typing this as I was blocking flying footballs and basketballs from hitting me in the face this morning. I think just walking around in a helmet would make most sense for me TBH.

And yes, before anyone @‘s me, I know not all boys are rowdy and many girls are. I’m simply speaking from my personal experience in my home and spending time with my own nieces and nephews.

Happy first episode of 2023, friends!

And what better way to kick things off with an episode centered on mindful decluttering and minimalism with ; because, to be honest, a deep cleanse always feels necessary after the holidays!

Tritika Sharda Bhanot is passionate about the minimalist lifestyle. She is a working Southasian mom on her journey to the minimalist lifestyle and her mantra is “each inch of your house is gold, use it wisely.” I love that she shares in this episode that her mother is who actually planted the seeds of minimalism growing up.

She also shares 5 tips for taking the first step to decluttering, organizing, and simplifying. We love easy!

Tritika works full time outside of the home as a senior consultant for an IT company. Along with this passion of hers for helping others simplify their life, she also has a side gig where she cooks delicious Southasian food and she also has a passion for helping other women create their own businesses as well.

Give the episode a listen 🎧 (linked in bio) and let us know what you think! Thanks, Tritika!
