Why Sri Lanka won’t become a World Beating T20I Side anytime soon !

Collapse after Collapse after Collapse. This is now turning to be a norm when it comes to T20I Cricket for Sri Lanka as especially the middle order batters are struggling big time. Number 4 to 8 usually needs to do well for a team to be successful but unfortunately that is not happening at all for Sri Lanka in the format.

Here is a comparison of Sri Lanka’s Number 4 to 8 with the last 3 World Champions.

So if the current Test ends as a Draw and Australia wins the last test then India will end on 51.75. Even if both the remaining games end as draws then the percentage for India will be 53.50.

If Australia wins this series 2-1 and then Sri Lanka do manage to beat Australia 2-0, Australia will end on 53.50 and Sri Lanka will end on 53.84.

So as long as India doesn’t win one of the remaining two tests but does draw one of the games and Australia only wins one out of their remaining 4 games, we technically have a chance to qualify!

Exactly a decade ago the legendary Kumar Sangakkara played his last ODI Knock in Sri Lanka. He scored 33 in that knock and few months later at the World Cup he bid adieu to his ODI career. A lot of people will always remember those majestic 4 centuries in a row. Sanga is the epitome for the term “Retire when people ask Why and not when they ask Why Not ?”
