Just a few thoughts this morning on the idea of explorative faith. I think for so many people the hiding of their questions leads them to a place of damage in their faith. To question outsides of the traditional boxes can cause rejection and a number of responses by others. Where Church is often said to be taking place seems to be more event oriented than an experience for people to grow closer together as they journey on their faith. If Church is a place where spiritual honesty, family community, and service to one another is missing then it may just be an event.

If you are interested in checking out what is on my brain lately these episodes dive deep into that. I am always trying to explore different ideas as to what I am wrestling with in regards to my inward faith as well as what I am observing around me. These three episodes I have put out over the summer deal with doubt, talking about God, and observations of the Church.
Some of the thoughts in these episodes I hope you can resonate with! I encourage you to go check them out and if you find them helpful go ahead and share them with somebody else who might need them. 😃

For a very long time the idea of faith and spirituality have become very rigid and less open.

When I allow myself to be open I become challenged in places in my life where I have not before.

When Jesus taught this is what He did. He challenged people in the rigidity. We could learn much from letting go sometimes.

The Church should be a place where grace abounds, acceptance thrives, and authenticity is celebrated. Let's create communities that embrace diversity, foster healing, and empower individuals on their unique journeys.

As I reflect on this vision, I am reminded of Jesus, who embodied grace and authenticity in all he did. One powerful example is when Jesus encountered the Samaritan woman at the well. Despite societal barriers and prejudices, Jesus engaged her in meaningful conversation, treating her with respect and kindness. In doing so, he demonstrated the transformative power of genuine care and acceptance.

Witnessing the Remarkable Blend of Humility and Strength⁣⁣

In the stories of Jesus, we are captivated by the extraordinary combination of humility and strength. His unwavering ability to uplift the broken, heal the wounded, and embrace the outcast stands as a profound testament to the transformative power of genuine care and acceptance.⁣⁣

Jesus, the embodiment of compassion and love, teaches us that true strength lies not in dominance or force, but in our capacity to extend a helping hand to those in need. His life serves as a powerful reminder that in embracing the vulnerable and marginalized, we not only heal and uplift others, but we also discover our own humanity in the process.⁣⁣

Let us be inspired by Jesus' example as we navigate our own journeys. May we strive to embody that same remarkable blend of humility and strength, reaching out to the brokenhearted, extending compassion to the wounded, and embracing those society often casts aside. In doing so, we become catalysts for transformative change and vessels of divine love.⁣⁣

Over the years there have become misconceptions about what the purpose of the Christain Faith is. Specifically in the United States, Christian Culture has become focused on winning culture wars, personal freedoms, and America itself.

A shocking idea and thought is what if the Christian Faith only became about people following Jesus? When there are additives the Christian Faith becomes much more than just the simplicity of Following Jesus.

I have heard the quote lately: "There's no love like Christian hate."

And I believe that for many this rings true. In the church today and in our present culture Christians have become known more for conflict and culture wars than the words and actions of Jesus. It is bewildering that when observing Christianity it can be seen that for many the heart of who Jesus was is not at the heart of their faith and the living of their lives.

If the church only operates as business it will continue to lose the people looking for community. If it continues to operate as brands and in a corporate manner it will lose sight of the teachings that Jesus clearly presents in His words.

Why would people believe that the church desired to see change in the world when it often has not even used the strategy that Jesus presents in His words and actions. People are watching Christians to see how they respond with their lives to the world around them. The culture war to be won is not as important as presenting to individuals with our lives who Jesus was and is. If the life of Jesus has any influence on us it will show by our life not by our votes and political affiliations.

When our faith becomes a defense of beliefs rather than presenting love we miss the heart of who Jesus was. Beliefs matter but it was always the grace of who Jesus was that drew people to belief in Him.

Great artwork by

What if I told you my faith was better from deconstructing not worse? Less anxiety, shame, fear, and worry. More exploration and openness to God. Do not let others tell you that your journey of faith is of the “devil” or “evil.” It isn’t.

A few thoughts on the word "revival." I grew up hearing this word quite a bit and even more so when I attended different conferences geared towards college aged and young adults. I think that bringing about change is much more than an event, worship gathering etc. The words of Jesus here ring clear to what living out such change should look like.

Something I want to start doing each week is creating some kinds of conversations for those that are working through their journey of faith. My hope is that these prompts can help people share some of their journey of faith as well helping them realize that they certainly are not alone in some of their thinking.

I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments! If you have any ideas for weekly conversation starters please reach out or leave ideas in the comments! I hope this can be helpful!

It sometimes seems like Jesus is not top priority for what it means to be "Christian." That the identifying markers have become more about social beliefs and moral beliefs than belief in just Jesus and alignment with Jesus. For many who walk away from Christianity it is because cultural issues & alignment of specific beliefs has become more important than the resurrection & message of Jesus. Many Christians care more about your political & social alignment than your one with Jesus.

To follow Jesus is to serve as He served and to be a disciple as He leads. This will often force us outside of our comfortability and perspectives. As we do this we begin to see the world through the eyes of others and grow in our love and empathy.

“Jesus’ resurrection released hope, not to cheapen life in this world, but to dignify it. To believe in the resurrection is to place the full weight of my hope in the “story of Jesus.” It is to acknowledge that at the center of the harsh reality of life, there is a supernatural gap that cannot be closed by my natural means.”

“Our job is to love others without stopping to inquire whether or not they are worthy. That is not our business and, in fact, it is nobody's business. What we are asked to do is to love, and this love itself will render both ourselves and our neighbors worthy.”

If Jesus viewed the desire to acquire political power to be a temptation of the devil, why do so many American Christians fight to acquire as much of this political power as they can?

-Keith Giles

We must keep these thoughts in mind as we observe our political culture.
