Todays Tip: A Phaser can add amazing texture to your synths, drums and Backing Vocals. Used sparingly it is a powerful effect for pulling out odd sparkle from your sounds.

Todays Tip: The MIDI fold button (top left) is great for quickly viewing the midi notes in your melody and finding your musical key, if you haven't already. You can easily assess the non-natural tones to to determine which key your song is in.

Todays Tip: The midi editor window has a great collection of tools for editing midi including reverse and invert which are great for finding counter melodies and complimenting rhythms!

Todays Tip: Max for Live has a great tool called LFO, this tool can be assigned to almost any parameter in live to control it with an LFO, It's great for modulating delay times on slap back delay with longer rate times!

Todays Tip: Ableton's Utility is a great tool for checking mixes in mono and furthermore the "bass mono" switch is great for checking your phase relationship in the bass!

Todays Tip: Inside instrument, effect and drum racks you can assign macros to a group of controls which you can map to a control surface. This is great for creating interesting effects or modulating your synths with your MIDI hardware!

Todays Tip: You ca use the loop lengths in Sampler or simpler to make basic granular synths or "Vocal gliders" in your recordings. Make sure to use the tuner effect to tune them accurately or it might get messy!

Todays Tip: You can create track locators to organise your projects, I also use these for reminders in sections such as 'Half time" or "airy synth" in my sessions. It's a quick way to keep ideas for later.!

Todays Tip: EQ8 has a left and right mode which is super useful for processing stereo samples. I've got a lot of use from this lately with some stereo acoustic guitars, different mic positions offer different tones and this has helped a lot to balance this.

Todays Tip: For slower computers (or large projects) you might need to increase the buffer size in the audio preferences tab, this will ease CPU load and let your projects run smoother. However at the cost of recording latency!

Todays Tip: Depending on your interface you can pre-route different inputs in your studio. For example I have my guitar processor in inputs 5&6 on my Focusrite Clarett 4 pre (thunderbolt), a stereo synth in 7&8, stereo mics in 1&2, my main vocal mic in 3 and an SM58 in 4 which allows me to quickly select the input depending on what i want to record. Saves lots of time plugging and unplugging gear.

Todays Tip: If you are struggling to write chord progressions you can find a list of MIDI clips online. A great app I used earlier this year was "Suggester" which is great for co-writing sessions.

Todays Tip: Adding your projects folder to the custom folders is a great workflow tip. I use this all the time to borrow melody and samples I've recorded in old projects and easily import them into the current project. Side note, you might want to start naming and organising your projects so they make sense in the browser this way.

Todays Tip: If you are finding screen realestate is a real pain in the neck, Live 10 now allows you to do simple Height and Width adjustments using the H & W buttons which snap the project into view quick and easily.

This was a big one for me, recently though I upgraded my monitoring by adding a 27inch vertical monitor to the 2 landscape monitors. I chose this as the vertical monitor is great for seeing all the tracks in the Arrangement view and the landscape is great for the session view on one side and Plugins on the other

Todays Tip: In the MIDI editing window you can easily halve or double the duration of selected notes. I find this super useful when I'm making arpeggiated patterns and melodies as it creates interest.

Todays Tip: Use groups to organise your vocal takes/layers. I like to pan them inside the group and then process them as one stereo file as it makes them gel nicely together.

Todays Tip: You can use the groove library to add feel to your recordings and midi programming. In fact you can even extract grooves from other recordings to give your tracks a more natural feel.

Todays Tip: You can freeze and flatten audio tracks to save CPU power, this is great for keeping midi notes and audio in the project. Best of both worlds!
