My Vitiligo Story | PART 2 | Daryl Benedict

It was June 2016 when I have officially been diagnosed with vitiligo, a skin condition where the melanocytes fail to develop melanin (skin color), thus leading to some depigmented parts of my skin.

It was June 2018 when I have first shared to social media and to the people who are dear to my heart that I have this because for two years I have been in denial.

Since 2016, the white patches slowly expand and spread to some parts of my body. Every time I look myself in the mirror, I cannot help but pity myself, honestly. 😞

There are times that I can feel that I am losing my confidence because I feel different having this depigmented parts of my skin. Sometimes, I feel like other people are distracted when they see that portion of my skin is abnormally white. 😞

I am sharing this to promote a little awareness so that by the time that you will encounter a person who has the same condition as mine, you won't feel naive. If you feel distracted as you see the person who has vitiligo, it might be humiliating or offensive to that person most especially if he/she has not fully accepted the condition. 😞

Having this condition, my self-esteem has been affected. That is why I am exploring ways on how share my story and unload my feelings.

I hope you will take time to listen and watch as I convey to you my story.

When left with nothing to do during this home quarantine, aside from sleeping and planning what to eat, this allows me to take a pause and reflect.

Everything is still uncertain at the moment. Still, no assurance when will this pandemic end. Needless to euphemize, we are really in a very difficult situation.

How the things we all planned became so difficult to materialize that we don’t know when will we push them through. We need to re-align our plans since the world will not do it for us. It is a test of faith.

We will make them happen not when the stars align, but in God’s perfect and irrefutable timing. ❤️

I used to stop counting the months and just simply greet you a happy monthsary. Karon, I would like to say, Happy 92nd month! We have come a very long way since the day we met in one of our undergrad classes. Daghan na kay ko’g utang nimo but I swear to make it up. Date sooooon! 😘

This would have been one of those exciting summer vacations I could have. I was ready to be home last April 10. Then, life happened. This time I know that you need your children the most which I found myself guilty for I cannot be there given this situation, Ma.

We are physically distant as of the moment but we will always be bonded by our love for you, Ma. We are not socially distant, that I can assure. This physical distance have not severed our care we have for you.

On your end, I can sense that you dearly miss us too. You are not good in hiding your emotions during our video calls.
