After watching 🇳🇬 Super Eagles' 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea, I wrote this piece advocating that the disappointing performance is not a cause for panic, but yet another opportunity for reflection on the state of football in the country.

The article highlights that Nigeria's persistent focus on players based in Europe - to the exclusion of locally based players - has neglected the development of the domestic game. It also calls for the implementation of existing sports policy and development plans, and strategic investment in the domestic league to build a sustainable football ecosystem that benefits Nigeria beyond the expectations during individual tournaments.

The point is that true progress lies in harnessing the benefits of football for national development, and this cannot be done by consistently ignoring the domestic game.
