Budget 2022: Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme extended till March 2023

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday proposed to further extend the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) till March 2023, with an expanded guarantee cover of Rs 5 lakh crore. She also said the draft DPRs (detailed project report) for five river links have been finalised and the implementation of Ken-Betwa rivers linking with an estimated cost of Rs 44,605 crore will be taken up.

In her Budget Speech 2022-23, Sitharaman said Kisan drones for crop assessment, land records and spraying of insecticides are expected to drive a wave of technology in the agriculture sector. "ECLGS scheme to be extended till March 2023 and guarantee cover expanded by Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh crore," she said.

Modi govt sees high tax collection as achievement, does not see people’s pain: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday alleged the Narendra Modi government sees high tax collection as its big achievement but does not see the pain of the people who are troubled by the tax burden.

On the first day of the Budget Session, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday presented the Economic Survey 2021-22 which said a strong revival in revenues and the government’s agile fiscal policy approach have created headroom for additional fiscal support.

It also noted that gross tax revenue during April-November 2021 has grown by 50 per cent year-on-year, while the GST mop up remained above Rs 1 lakh crore mark since July 2021.

“The people of the country are troubled by the burden of tax collection, whereas for the Modi government the tax earnings are a big achievement. There is a difference of perception — they see only their wealth, not the pain of the people,” Gandhi said on the Economic Survey in a tweet in Hindi.

India will retain its tag of the world’s fastest-growing major economy as the pre-Budget Economic Survey forecast an 8 to 8.5 per cent GDP growth in the fiscal year starting in April, saying it has the fiscal space to do more to support the economy and is well placed to meet the future challenges.

India is poised to wrest the title world-beating economy tag this fiscal with a projected growth of 9.2 per cent, and the widespread vaccine coverage, supply-side reform.

Ahmedabad: Protest over wall on dargah premises

Hundreds of residents of Pirana village in Daskroi taluka of Ahmedabad district took to the streets on Sunday in protest of construction of a wall on the premises of Imamshah Bawa Sanstha Trust, replacing an earlier wired partition. Aslali police, within whose jurisdiction the area falls, detained 133 protesters, including 64 women.

Situated in Pirana village on the outskirts of Ahmedabad city, the trust is custodian of a dargah of Pir Imamshah Bawa, a mosque, a tomb of the Pir and a graveyard. The followers of Pir Imamshah are Satpanthis.

The protest was carried out by Pirana village residents, mostly Saiyed Muslims, alleging that the construction of the wall will cut off access to the dargah from the mosque and graveyard on the premises and will also “change the nature of the shrine”.
The protest was carried out by Pirana village residents.

Apprehending “law and order” trouble, around 125 police personnel as well as fire personnel were deployed in the village by the district administration.

As per a communication from the additional district magistrate to the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Daskroi on January 28, the Trust’s committee on January 25 passed a resolution by a majority approval of eight of the 11 members, deciding “to build a paved wall in place of the dilapidated wire fence”, as part of the renovation work.

The communication also instructed that “deputy collector and SDM Daskroi will have to ensure law and order is maintained during the (renovation) work in coordination with the local police”.

UP Assembly Polls 2022 | Votes from polarisation politics not acceptable to BJP: Rajnath Singh

Union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Rajnath Singh on January 30 hit out at the Samajwadi Party and said that BJP seeks votes on the basis of humanity and justice

Addressing people during a 'Prabhavi Matdaata Samvad' (effective voter dialogue) program in Kasganj, Singh took a jibe at Akhilesh Yadav-led party - "Red topi of SP spells red alert", and said, "We do not want votes on the basis of caste, creed and religion. We seek votes only on the basis of justice and humanity."

"Samajwadi Party is doing politics of polarisation. They have crossed all limits to get the vote of a particular religion. Votes from polarisation politics are not acceptable to us," he added.

Apart from this, the Defence Minister also lauded current Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for not letting any riots to take place during the tenure.

"The Samajwadi Party has to accept the fact that it was in their tenure only that so many riots took place. They need to answer why did this happen. And, you all need to understand why no one could dare to riot under the rule of Bharatiya Janata Party,"

Rajnath Singh even expressed his confidence that the BJP will repeat the win of 2017.

Earlier on January 28, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav alleged a ploy by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), after his chopper to western Uttar Pradesh was briefly "stopped" by the authorities.

The helicopter was to be taken by Yadav to travel from Delhi to west UP's Muzaffarnagar, where he was scheduled to address a joint press conference with ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).
