Like most first time fathers, Mohammed Abu Al Qumsan, from Gaza, was bursting with pride at the arrival of his twin son and daughter, Aser and Aysal.

He had done everything possible to keep his pregnant wife, Jumana, safe while the entire territory has been under heavy bombardment. Due to her higher risk pregnancy, aid organisations had been able to provide the displaced family with an apartment in Deir Al-Balah.

The safe arrival of the twins was heralded by their mother as a ‘miracle’ on her social media.

Three days after their birth, Mohammed left the apartment to collect birth certificates for his children, which he lovingly organised to have laminated even amongst the ravages of war. It was while he was gone that the IDF executed a targeted strike on his apartment, killing his twin babies, his wife, and his mother-in-law.

Two women and two babies were assassinated in cold blood while their father, husband, son-in-law was registering their births.

Mohammed never got to enjoy his brief fatherhood. He never got his fill of that sweet baby scent. He never got to enjoy their cuddles and their coos, the sleepless nights, the teething, the crawling.

Because there were four short days between their birth and their death. The ink was barely dry on their birth certificates when Mohammed had to bury them in the ground. The clothing that he had anticipated dressing them in will never be worn. The life he envisioned with Jumana will never be realised.

Aser and Aysal are just two of the 115 babies who have been born and died during this war. And they are amongst tens of thousands of children who have been killed in 10 months of bombardment.

I’ve run out of words to say in the face of such evil heartlessness.

We stand by Senator Fatima Payman, a strong young Muslim woman's voice for peace.

It is bewildering that such heroic actions are met with retribution rather than reward.

Nevertheless, Australians in our millions stand by, in your support.

“Fatima Payman has risked expulsion from the ALP after becoming the first Labor politician to cross the floor in more than 18 years when she voted in support of a parliamentary push by the Greens to recognise Palestinian statehood.

Defying her party’s official position on the Israel-Palestine conflict, Senator Payman’s intervention comes amid reports she has stopped talking to senior colleagues over her strong pro-Palestinian stance.”

May Allah strengthen you in every step that you take, Senator.

Shame on you, Australian Labor Party for enabling the genocide in 🍉
