Here’s a paraphrase of what I hear say last night:

Barracks 2030 - the barracks were neglected for years as financial resources were used for combat operations. That ends now. It will hurt, but it won’t hurt them (meaning the Marines who will live in them). We are going to knock down and rebuild the old barracks that need to be replaced

Complain all you want to about what happened in the past, but CMC and SMMC are focused on the fix. Not sure why I see accounts blasting them. Don’t fall for the negativity trap. Be the leader, be the example, set expectations and ensure they are met. Problems pop up but remember this, it’s best to judge the fix, not the discovery of the problem. If the AC in the barracks is out, what’s the bigger issue, the discovery or the fix?

Carry on Marines-you earned a title few ever earn and our brand is strong bc we all make it strong together. Go to the and see all the people there admiring and coveting our brand. They are either Marines or people wishing they were Marines. S/f

We won WWII with this vehicle and a lot of other wars too. Now we have the JLTV. I see this and I think speed and dispersion may actually be the best armor in future fights. Just my opinion.

“What’s the story…”

Most common question I get asked is, “How did you come up with the concept of “Moments in Leadership?”

The answer isn’t how I started, the answer is WE started it as this picture was taken. If you’ve heard me tell the story before about how “a bunch of us were just sitting around a firepit tell stories about our days together as Lieutenants” this is a picture of that very get together. Everyone pictured here was a member of the early 1990s Lieutenant Protective Association (aka: The LPA) but there are many missing from the pic as well. We were fortunate to be able to spend the last few days together celebrating 3 1/2 decades of service by now Mr. Dave Bellon.

Ruthless accountability starts with your peers.

It was great to see all my brothers for the celebrations. I’ll have more thoughts on all this on my next pod which will drop over the next day. My head still hurts from non stop boozing and laughing.

Attention Comm Bubba’s and Leaders. I can talk from Maryland to Europe and was recently talking all through South America on HF with this antenna. It’s lighter than your folding whip antenna. Who can you reach on HF?

From my radio and small antenna near Solomon’s Island in MD I’m reaching stations Lima Charlie in France, Germany, Italy, etc on Ham Radio using the 20m Band (which is between 14.250 and 14.350MHz) and the 10m Band (28.300 to 29.700MHz). You should be able to do that off a manpack HF and a simple field expedient antenna kit.

I’m planning out a HF contest with and .repeater and we are looking for other people who want to play.

ConOps - on a Friday this spring, units / Marines who want to try out some long range comms using manpack and field expedient antennas will meet on a few different freqs and establish comms. I’m toying with live streaming it. You take pics or vids with the Marines and your gear establishing long range comms with a designated distant stations (prob me) and post it. More to come but it will work best if you have someone in your unit who has at least a General Class Ham License. (Don’t even get me started on how everyone coming out of a Comm MOS should have this prior to hitting the fleet)

Calling all 2/7 alum from back in the day…the group putting together this reunion asked me to help get the word out for them. They are requesting specifically 2004 OIF 2 vets to sign up for Thursday May 2, 2024 and they are looking at options for opening it up to all 2/7 Vets on May 3rd. If you are a 2/7 alum or have friends who are, be sure to pass the word.

Roger up if you’ve been in the 29 Palms Slammer! Stopped off to see Ret MSgt Don Albers at the 29 Palms PMO shop, a buddy from my High School who I never crossed paths with in the Corps until today almost 35 years later. It’s the first time since 1991 that I’ve been in that PMO since my fellow Lts, upon check in, told me I needed to go there and get a Lavic Lake Fishing Pass for family day.
